What things have you learned from mystery shopping that you would not know otherwise?

Hotel security procedures. As a female who travels alone a lot it is calming when a GSA points to the room number and doesn't state it out loud, and when you are locked out of your room, security verifies your identity.

Approximately 19 out of 20 housekeepers let me into a room with no ID at all. It's very strange.

When anyone lets me into a locked room at a hotel without verification, I score the hotel 1 out of 10 concerning likelihood of return and likelihood that I would recommend it. I use the narrative to make it clear that this factor overrides ALL other experiences of that visit.

I’ve had the opposite experience. Almost all housekeepers send me to the front desk. When I get there, more often than not they don’t ask for ID.
