Would you buy used Tires?

I did a phone shop today and the salesman tried to sell me a set of used tires. They only had 100 miles on them, and they were a higher brand tire that was marked down. They still had all the warranties. I am thinking this would not be a good thing unless the guy offered me other tires and mentioned this offer along with the new tires. I did ask what the set would cost if it was new, so I got that information. What would other shoppers do? I am not sure what to say in the report as this has never happened to me before.

I used to always buy used tires. They are most likely from a car accident totaled car or cars that broke down that the owner decided to scrap instead but just got new tires.. Theres a place around the corner from me that sells new tires likes they are going out of style. lol

I understand that, but I have to evaluate it as a mystery shopper and I am on the fence about my response. They still had the same warranties as new ones did. I have never had anyone I am shopping try to sell me them.

I did a shop where I was supposed to get information on new tires to buy on credit (the shop was to see what kind of credit they offered). The salesman wanted me to lease the tires. I actually laughed at the salesman, but he swore that the tires could be leased. It went into the report. The editor came back and told me flat out that tires could not be leased. I told her I didn't know, but that is what I was offered (instead of credit) and I stood behind my report. I was paid.

Luckily it is recorded. My first though was why did the previous customer return them? I think they are a high priced tire, so it was a good deal for somebody. Just not me.

A few cars ago when I needed tires, the Auto Dude suggested used ones and did a whole dog and pony show on their benefits. I asked my Dad and he said don't do it, they were returned for a reason that Auto Dude may not be honest about.

That editor was incorrect. Rent-A-Wheel/Rent-A-Tire is the largest chain in the tire leasing business. They're right up there with other rent to own businesses and payday lenders.

I had those same thoughts. I know small local tire shops offer used tires, but this was not a mom and pop tire shop. My first thought was that they were noisy or something.

Several reasons for the shop to have used tires with about 100 miles. Some car dealers offer rim and tire upgrades. The shops they work with will offer a deal if they get to keep the factory rims and tires. Same way a customer might want their new factory tires replaced with a preferred brand. The shop may have also had a situation where they took back tires for whatever reason.

I bought a used tire years ago from a repair/tire shop that I used for repairs. The tire was the same as my newer ones, no difference, nicely threaded and cost a cool 15.00. My shop wouldn't sell bad used tires, I know they don't want to be sued. This is not a recommendation, but it worked for me when I needed it.

Yes, it is I guess I can say that since I did not mention the MSC. It was approved. My main objective was that the salesman did not give me a different option. He did not recommend any new tires with the used tires. He could have told me I have a set of new tires with the example, but we also have a good deal on these slightly used tires.
