Darn time stamp

The other evening I did a 76 gas station Mystery Shop. It was a shop to be done in the dark. My phone said it was 7:02 when I pumped my gas. The gas receipt said 6:58 and the store receipt said 7. Luckily it's right up the street from my house so I was able to reschedule it for another day. I hate when their timestamp is different.

I always go with my phone time which is the most accurate. In your report, state that the station’s times are wrong. Never had a shop rejected because of this.
I'm a bit confused. I have lots of shops over the years where the time on the receipt didn't match the actual time of the shop. I simply mentioned it in the narrative. Never had any shop refused for that reason. When I checked my receipts before leavi9ng, I would do a geo verify or snap a pic of the storefront if there was some discrepancy. Heck, I've had shops where not only the time was wrong, the day, month and year were incorrect. I've even used credit card receipts from the bank to prove when I was there.

The problem was the shop couldn't be done before 7 p.m. and I was concerned that since the one receipt said at 6:58 p.m. it would be rejected. I always go by my phone time to but I was afraid that the 6:58 would reject it.
7:02 is cutting it a little close. Maybe stretch your pad to 5 minutes? I put at least 35 minutes between USPS shops. Even though I have to sit in somebody's parking lot a little longer I know that clock difference is not going to cause a problem.

Yeah, that's cutting it close. You said in the original post "after dark". Here in the north this time of year that is anytime after 5 pm. If I had a shop that required after 7pm, I would pad it at least 10 minutes. Still, I would put in the original report, depends how much the required purchase was and how far I had to drive to get there. I hate re-shops.

When I see that, I make a note WITH the report. And I always make sure my camera is synced with news radio.I have never had a challenge with that,
Too bad you didn’t notice the gas receipt then. You could have sat in the car for five minutes. Same thing has happened to me on their shops.
I have done over two hundred of the shops you asked about. My estimate is that less than 10% of my shop receipts from the gas or store purchases have the correct time stamp. They vary from a few minutes to nearly an hour off my cell phone time, almost always behind the actual time.

The current reports don't really have a narrative section to explain the discrepancy. You can force it by answering "NO" to the question about your receipt matching what was purchased. However I don't think that is the real purpose of that question.

I have never indicated in my reports that the receipt times did not match the actual shop times. None of these reports have ever been given the dreaded "Invalid" mark from QC. I've never been sent an email asking for clarification on the discrepancy.

Based on my experience, I think that the shop editors understand that this is a common issue. The only time I would be concerned is if your required photos have a time stamp or embedded date and time information in the picture file that doesn't match your reported shop times.

I did a shop today required to be there between 12:15 and 2:00.

Receipt says I was there at 11:01.

Bummer. I e-mailed the MSC, and noted it in the comments on the shop, but it always leaves me nervous.
Try changing timezones and your "smart" phone ain't so smart.

This, and the above mentioned issues, have occurred to me numerous times. With proper documentation I have never had an MSC question me. I have used all methods of proof of time listed above, noted it in my report immediately wherever possible and never have had an issue.

That's what I do too. I also write a quick sentence that the receipt was correct except for the time.
