Jiffy Lube Revealed

Anyone know anything about these $75.00 Jiffy Lube revealed audits? I can't get a hold of a scheduler and really don't want to assign myself one just to see the details.

A scheduler called me and talked to me about them a little. I wasn't interested (I don't really do "revealed" shops.) However, he said that they figured they'd take a couple of hours on-site and were very detail-oriented. I did not ask any questions or press for information, so I don't have any more than that.

a couple hours.... so... probably like a half hour in real life.

The fee is very appealing. 28 pictures seems reasonable.

I got the email, but are these currently on the board anywhere? I don't see any and I have tried several major markets in the northeast.
I tried, and failed, to find one of them. I would be willing to do one as a trial.

Surprised you weren't offered $300 for the shop (afterall)...smiling smiley

The problem with a reveal shop like this that it would be hard to go back for a mystery shop oil change. There are a couple of JL locations near me that I want to continue to visit for oil changes for other MSC’s.
I woke up this morning to NO Jiffy Lube locations anywhere that I can see. I wonder if the MSC pulled them for some reason.

I am doing one on Friday, but NOT a revealed one. Because Jiffy Lube computers are linked, if you do one revealed shop, you may well show up on ALL computers as a shopper. Their guarantee of "top-ups" between oil changes depend on every location being able to input your vehicle ID to verify that you qualify for that extra windshield washer fluid or more air in your tire, after all. AND, there IS a place on those computer screens for "Notes" about your vehicle to be entered. Why jeopardize the right to earn an oil change in trade for an easy report? For me, that has meant well over $1000 in tax-free "income in kind." Not giving that up.

I see them, but none in my are, I always did the one in my town, haven't seen it in months. I could drive 30 miles, but expecting rain again, so no....why would they have some and not others?

Easy solution: just pick 2 or 3 Jiffy Lubes that you trust with your car and mystery shop only those locations. Do the revealed audits on the rest of the locations.
If the revealed audit paid at least $30, I would rather do a bunch of them and just DIY my cars' oil changes. So far, I have not seen any revealed JL.
AZ,
There is one problem with such a plan....
ALL of the Jiffy Lube locations have their computers connected so they ALL can see your vehicle's history for that little session at the computer reviewing service records. Once you do a revealed shop at one, ALL others can see any "notes" about you or your vehicle that the one where you "revealed" entered into your history. Without that shared record, they could not check to see if a vehicle qualified for the free "top up" services between oil changes!

However it appears from the limited information provided that it’s a straight reveal. There is no reimbursement so I do not believe you actually do a oil change first. It is more of an inspection. They would not input your car information into their computer system.
Well, before the folks at every JL I have ever visited will check out any vehicle, they enter it into their computer. This happens because, as soon as you are greeted, the license plate info goes into the shop floor computer. No vehicle enters a shop bay without a computer entry being made. I suspect this is for liability insurance purposes.)

If it’s a straight reveal as described, you would not have them check out your vehicle and your car would not enter the shop bay. You would park outside, enter the lobby, announce the reveal shop to the manager and commence the inspection. They even mention wearing safety glasses to make your observations in the service bay area. There is no mention of a mystery shop or getting any work done on your car.
Well, THAT is a whole different thing. If revealed shops are something you would do, no problems that I can see, except for why I still would not do it.
I still would not do it, since I refuse to do any revealed shops. Employees change location and/or employers all the time in the industries most likely to do reveals. (fast/casual food, service industries, etc.)

Completed my first Jiffy Lube Reveal Audit. Can not say it was easy. Lots of areas to report on, including the pictures. I will say the most challenging area was timing the cars. The manager and staff were accommodating and pleasant. Total time a little over 2.5 hours. Not sure if I can do this again. Submitted my report and no questions or rejection so far.
