Bonvoy Amex + Hotel Credit

So, this is interesting... if you have a Bonvoy Amex Card and you shop a Marriott hotel that reimburses your stay (instead of charges being reversed), you can earn a credit through the card! It's like a small bonus =)

Yup, been doing it for years. Get the rewards cards for all the hotel chains.

Yep! Also great if you're trying to hit the minimum spend to get the sign-up bonus.
I think what you are talking about is a credit on a stay that later is reversed. This is different than earning points on the stay. I have never successfully been able to do this because the credit that the card offers is not until the statement has closed. If you get the stay cost reversed, the credit never posts. At least in my experience.
This would only work if the stay is reimbursed, instead of charges being reversed.
If the charges are reversed, you STILL get points for the stay, just not for the charges to the card! So, join all the rewards programs. Get the cards; use the cards for all of your reimbursement shops, fuel, etc. You will soon have enough for free night(s).

The points, yes.

But the bonus is the extra credit. For example, currently the card offers 10% back on money spent at Marriott hotels. So if the charges were $500, you just got an extra $50 credit towards your statement.
I have not ventured into hotel shops lately and probably would not want to do the really high end ones spending my time doing pages and pages of reports. Are there msc that often reimburse rather than reverse charges? Or is it client by client? If msc, which ones tend to reimburse? My Am Ex card, directly thru Am Ex, has multiple listings of hotel chains with rebates on stays all the time. Right now there are about 10 of them ranging from around $50-75.
Almost all of the Marriott properties do reversal, but some of the ones in Mexico have botched my reversal and I was able to get paid out directly.

The card also gives you tier credits so it's easier to qualify for Platinum if that's a goal....and occasionally there will be other bonuses. Last year they had a promo where you get $50 credit if you stayed at 2 particular hotel brands that I was able to get shops at. I still got the $50 credit, even though the charges were reversed.

I only do hotels that are reimbursed, not reversed.
Yes double dip with Am Ex frequently.

Depends on the MSC. One MSC that shops Marriott reimburses. Like 3 years later, but still.....
