The Perks of Mystery Shopping

Rents here are rising to an extreme. I rented a room and bathroom with garage to a friends friend getting a divorce and needed a place. He offered me $1,000 and only sleeps there, works, travels and has never been
in my kitchen. I do know he is looking to buy but imagine that money for a room. I am thinking of selling this year and moving to Chicago to be closer to my daughter, will look into it, I really have no one here, and want to be back in a city, hate going out and seeing everyone in flip flops....as nice as it is, we'll see.

You will definitely experience a change in climate. At least you can be active all year where you are. Once it starts getting cold, it makes complete sense why CA and FL are so popular.

Growing up in San Francisco where it rained all the time and the sun never came out, I do better in cold weather, clothes wise, here it was 110 last summer, and I died staying in all the time or collapsing at the pool. I have visited in Dec. below 0 and did o.k. except for frozen lips, but had fun. I am home a lot anyway, but will be able to wear my boots, winter coats and scarfs, maybe I'm dreaming. Definitely speaking to my daughter to get her thoughts.
Dated someone in Sarasota Fl. and fainted in the humidity, at least we have dry heat. Not a summer girl.

@Irene_L.A. I adore Chicago, cold winters and all, but the other seasons are just amazing. I love where I live (most of the time) because we truly have all 4 seasons. With the exception of 9 months I spent in Davis, CA and 6 years in Germany, I've spent my entire life on the East Coast.

Rents are rising where I am, too, too many people tearing down old beautiful homes and motels to build condo after condo, one higher than the next so they can see that illustrious ocean. I lucked out and got a 2BR apartment a block from the lake & bay and 4 blocks to the ocean for $950 but my neighbors are renting a room in their house for the summer for $6000!

I understand about the hell I mean the extreme heat. I left it behind and can't go back. I need the cool temperatures! Cold is great, too.

You know what below 0 can be like.
Do you have a 'winter coat' OR a winter coat suitable for a Chicago winter? What about gloves? There is a LOT to do here.

My sister lives in SF and my Aunt and Uncle live in Sacramento so we have visited quite often. I love SF but yes, it's cool and damp. I also dislike extreme heat. I will take the Winters. My family so enjoys Winter sports.

@Irene, I know you have or will get a down jacket/coat. I love mine!

My hardware shops pay for my tools, garden items, plants, screws and widgets.

My monthly grocery bill is less than $20, thanks to the food shops that I do.

The gas for my car is paid for.

I used to live in Michigan. I remember wishing for snow so it would warm up to 33 degrees.

Yes, I have been going there twice a year for 22 years since my daughter went to Northwestern Univ. I have all the right clothes for layering and warmth and know the W. Loop area where she lives plus downtown. I'm retired so able to stay in when needed. Wouldn't drive, take Uber as I don't go far, Macy's area and Art Institute, shopping galore, love the city.
