Ever been given a shop you didn't request?

I was and it feels weird/creepy. I don't want to say too much other than that.

...Well, other than it felt like maybe the person was trying to "pressure" me into taking that FAR away shop. *shudder*

Yeah I told the owner when I was free, and he booked a bunch of resorts. Then he changed them. No big deal since he pays for travel.
When I contacted them because I didn't ask for the shop I was thanked. The shop had been verbally requested by someone else with a vaguely similar name and they had erroneously assigned it to the wrong person (at least that was what they claimed).

I don't want to say too much, but in my case that wasn't the case. I asked about it (said I never asked for it) and was told in a round about way that they needed the shop done. They thought they were doing ME a favor by offering it to me.

The offer amount didn't even cover the ridiculous mileage.

eta: I turned it down.

I understand and am very ready to believe that some schedulers throw shops onto shoppers' schedules to make it appear that the shopper flaked rather than take personal responsibility for not getting the shop scheduled. This kind of deceitful practice certainly speaks to the pressures and ethics of the industry, yet somehow an adequate number MSCs and schedulers manage to still rise above to establish themselves as good folks to work with.
One time, a couple years ago. The shop was two miles away from my house, and the date range was perfectly fine, so I did it. However, I did mention to the scheduler that I never actually applied for the shop but would be happy to do it. The scheduler looked it up and an old application for the location (previous shopping period) never went away in her system. All was well with the shop.
Yes. I sent an E-letter explaining to the owner, but she ignored it. When, two days later, I was sent on overdue notice, I sent her a reply, to which she inquired as to why I did not cancel the shop. My response was that since I had not requested the job, there was no logic in cancelling. She begrudgingly conceded I was right and I continued with the company until a buyout or merger, I never knew which took place.

I'm really trying to hold my lip here, so this will be the absolute last thing I say:

It wasn't a scheduler who gave it to me. People can deduce from that what they want. It was definitely a person, though, and not a computer. I spoke with the person too (by email). Okay, that's all.

Who the heck assigned it if it wasn't a scheduler?

I had a situation with a msc several years ago. I had signed up for the company but never found shops I was interested in so I had never applied for a shop. About two years after I signed up with them I saw an interesting shop on a scheduling company website. I applied for it, found out it was for that msc I never worked for and was accepted for the job. A few days later with the job already scheduled I got an email from the company owner telling me he cancelled the shop because I had a previous flake on a shop. I wrote back telling him I had never before applied for anything on his site and asked him for the information on the shop I supposedly flaked on. He only told me it was about 6 months before. I looked through all my emails and saw nothing at all. I am quite organized and usually only do one or at most two shops at a time. I would certainly remember flaking on a shop as it has never happened to me. I have though cancelled shops a few times.
In any case even with appealing to the msc owner he stopped answering me. I decided I really did not need a company with that attitude and never looked back.
Yes. I was just assigned 38 shops I didn't ask for.

Fortunately, they sent me an e-mail telling me to log in and accept them.

Yes I found a $12.00 job at least an hours drive away in my box once. I contacted scheduler to explain why I never asked for the job and all was well. Recently I contacted a company to inquire about a job and it was assigned to me. I spoke to scheduler to review pay, deadline, and how many narratives were needed.Everything met MY specs so I did the job.
Yep it happens every now and then. I simply respond that I can do them (if I truly can), HOWEVER, I add a nice bonus requirement. In most cases, these are very hard to fill shops and I am honored to feel like they can count on me. But it usually entails extra effort, hence the extra pay. I'm sure you can guess that if the extra pay is not available, my time/effort is probably not available either.

A couple of years ago I applied for a shop near my home. I got an acceptance notice, but it was for the location across town (a 40-minute round trip, for which the fee wasn't nearly enough). I wrote to the scheduler, saying that a mistake had been made and asked to have it removed. He did, but I've always suspected it was done on purpose, since that particular location always seemed to be hard to fill.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
I've had the odd circumstance where I emailed asking some details about a shop and had it assigned to me, to which I quickly replied and said, 'Hey, I was just asking about it, doesn't mean I want to do it...please remove." The scheduler didn't respond and the shop remained until a few days after it was due, and then it disappeared.
I have had one of my cats assign me a job when I was away from the desk since I was the only one at home I had left the PC up and running on the request page. come back and one of the cats was asleep on the keyboard.
That's the best one so far! Instead of "the dog ate my homework" it's "the cat assigned the job, not me" situation. Umhmmm.
Shoptastic, thats creepy and I am sure some more info would help other shoppers. Was it a good company or was it an unknown company?
It was not a scheduler then who was he or she?
Were they associated with the MSC?
Had you heard about them through the MSC?
Why did they approach you?
Are you still signed up with the MSC?
Did you tell the MSC that some stranger assigned you a shop and possibly has access to shopper contacts????

I am getting worried now.
Happened to me once, sent an email that I never selected the shop and gave the scheduler a way out. The person took care of it saying it was scheduled by mistake but that person knew what they tried to do.
I was assigned two shops I did not apply for. I won't even be in the same state. I'm waiting for them to be removed.

I accepted a burger shop yesterday from a scheduler by phone, only because it is a rarity in that you dine inside (no carhop). On a previous phone call last week I explained that I didn't have access to a car at this time and therefore could not accept other locations. She said it will be noted. So last night I open up the website, there are two locations assigned. One requiring a car at a location I had never visited because it is not even in my county. A nice bonus but I am conflicted about it.

I suspect this will come as no surprise to other MF shoppers.
