LinkedIn, to follow or not follow?

Every job interview I have gone on in the past 5 years has resulted in the other party having my work history on a screen in front of them as well.

It's a brave new world where you no longer have to volunteer information about yourself. Others simply extract it....

LinkedIn has been GREAT for my IT work, but I am winding down into semi-retirement. While I was working FT, the connections were fantastic. I had more work solicitations than I could handle, which I farmed out to my compadres. It was a such a fun, financially rewarding time to do IT work, I think, unfortunately, the quality of contacts has gone down.

Yep. I did a test drive shop. Sales Dude hit me up on every single social media app by the time I got home, including My Space. Who uses My Space?

It seems you do.
I use LinkedIn to research real estate targets whom I am assigned to shop. I can often find their photos that way so that I know who to look for when I arrive at the community.

I don't know if this has happened to me (no one said anything), but how did you come to find out that the employees looked you up? That seems offensive to me and only reinforces the few measures I take to preserve some sense of privacy. I would have reported them to the hotel mgmt.

I received an email from LinkendIN informing me how many times my name appeared in the search engine. It also tells you which person or company viewed you.
When I was more active and up to date on my LinkedIn acct, I had the free account - only once in a while did I have the upgraded one where you get to see who's been sniffing around. Most of the time, I could not see who was looking at my profile. I would be happy to delete my account all together, but I have not fully committed to retirement.

I don't.

I did when it first came out. I haven't been active in over 10 years. I guess my profile is still active.

I used it for many years for IT work, but not MS'ing. In the past 10 years or so, I've been increasingly annoyed that although my profile is private I still have random people contact me. If you do use it, I would expect a fair amount of junk.
Yep. The spam coupled with their decision to push a political agenda instead of simply remaining a networking site left a bad taste. I don't think I've logged in for more than a year now.
