I'm just curious how much others make a week and how many shops or how much time do you put in to make that? I work full time, so I am ok with making $100 a week. I usually go over that and sometimes quite a bit. I also live in a small area where there isn't a huge amount of jobs to choose from.

I make a living wage, barely.

When I was mystery shopping pretty much full time, I was making enough to pay the mortgage and utilities, after expenses. That did not include 'free' stuff such as groceries, gasoline and hardware purchases. Now I am older, lazier, and in a location where it is not as easy to plan a route. I can make $100-150 a week if I include mall shops, but I don't usually take them unless they pay/reimburse very well. I despise walking through the mall.

Ha! I just don't understand phrasing the question that way. It's offensive to many, not to others.

A much better way to phrase the question is:

I shop about 10 hours a week after my full time job and make $100. Is this an ok amount or should I be doing better?

This question offends no one, gets the information you want, and the people who don't mind sharing their income are free to say "I shop 10 hours a week too and make $150 a week."

I wasn't asking to see your tax returns. If you notice in my own personal example I provided I said I am OK with $100. I usually go over that and sometimes quite a bit. I did not say any specifics into how much I make. I'm not interested in a reply that says someone made $314.53 last week.

To answer the question you really want to ask. If I had a different full time job and wanted to make an extra $100 a week that would be 3-4 hours one afternoon at the most.

I make around $2000-3000 per month depending on the month. I also try to do 2-4 dining shops which could be around $200-1000 reimbursement depending on the shop. I also get around $100-300/month of reimbursement for things like movies, sports games, or other fun activities.

I shop 2 weekends a month 5-10 hours a day, and then do the dining and entertainment shops during the week or other weekends.

And for you to attempt to chastise me for "thinking" I know what you're asking when the words you used were elementary and quite easily understood is even more rude than the question itself.

I met a casual acquaintance in real life a few days ago and we got to talking about how he was on vacation, but wanted to look for a new job because he didn't think he earned enough. He told me how much he made and how much he wanted to make, and we chatted about what I did and the fact that we were in a similar line of work. Then he said "If you don't mind my asking, how much do you make?"

I replied with "I *do* mind you asking". Thinking back on it, that wasn't really accurate. What I should have said was "I don't mind you asking, but I don't want to answer." I don't mind the question, even if it caught me a bit off guard. I think it's considered rude because talking about money is one of the things I've been taught to avoid (like sex, religion and politics... I grew up thinking that it's safer to avoid these topics with everyone but those closest to you).

Anyway, it feels different when the question is posed directly to me in person out in the real world than when it's posed to a group on an internet discussion board. In real life if someone asks you a direct question that you don't want to answer, you have to craft an answer and you have to do it on the spot. On an internet discussion board, you don't have to respond to a question at all if you don't want to. And if you do want to, you can think about your answer for a few hours (or even days).

@colleeny25 put the question out there for discussion. She talked about how much she made and was curious what other people were doing on an anonymous discussion board where people discuss Mystery Shopping. That's not the same in my opinion as responding directly to her and asking how much she makes in her day job. I think you were doing it to prove a point, but all I see is the chip on your shoulder whenever anyone asks about how much people make. We get it. You think it's rude. And you responded back with rudeness of your own. I actually don't think her question was that rude and that you look overly sensitive and defensive whenever this topic comes up. But that's just my opinion and I'm just an anonymous person on the internet, so feel free to ignore me.

I was brought up to understand a person's money is their business, and feel none of anyone's business unless you want to share privately..most don't make enough, always want to make more...your question to yourself should be...how much can I make, let me see how many jobs I'm able to do, and don't think knowing how much others make should determine your fee's. Some here make good money, but it's not my place to say who, while others fail. Since this is an individual industry, some make a lot and others not enough....hope that helps.

And I'm of the opinion that being on an internet message board doesn't excuse rudeness.

We have a difference of opinion. That's fine. I don't have a problem at all that some people don't find it rude. I'm not the only person who does. I provided a less rude way of asking the question and getting what is likely more helpful answer than "I make xxxxx" but instead of saying hey that's a better idea you're focusing on telling me I'm oversensitive and defensive.

I deleted a response that I started earlier. It went something like this: we are not dating and we don't know each other, so I will tell you.... it seemed like I was being snarky. Perhaps I was. Maybe I was not. I dunno.

Anyway, in some weeks I earn more than in other weeks. As long as I make my tiny monthly goal (which includes revenue from other streams), I can work a unique weekly schedule or not at all for a week or so. I love this aspect of my IC world.
