On some shops I'll have to bring the paperwork with me into the shop.

Interesting that someone is advocating not following the instructions (taking paperwork into the shop despite being expressly told not to) because there is so much to remember. Methinks that there is so much to remember is because some shoppers have taken it upon themselves to do as they see fit, thereby necessitating a lot more instructions most of which seem self-explanatory, in order to prevent things being done that should not be done (and the client does not wish to be done), and that require additional instructions, pictures, questions, etc. I hope no one wonders any longer why some MSCs have a "zero tolerance" policy for errors, missed pictures, etc. Quite an arrogant attitude on their part! Hmmmm....

Clearly some of the people writing the guidelines have never done any mystery shopping. You do what it takes to get the report done. Some people take notes, other put the guidelines on their phone. Nothing wrong with that. It gets the job done. I think some of these guidelines cross the point of treating you more like an employee, than an Independent Contractor.
I love this. This would make a great sig line.

I have been telling people for years that ignorance is curable. Same idea!

And alas, there are those who refuse their medication. sad smiley

I used to not take fries home with me because they don't reheat well. However, my brother told me that he feeds his local wildlife with them. The squirrels, in particular, love them!

Those squirrels are going to get thunder thighs!
Can squirrels get diabetes? I guess the fries could definitely shorten their lifespan. Especially if it slows them down so they can't get away from their predators.
Is that a problem? I see it as humane pest control!

Some people on here take the fun away from mystery shopping. You're scaring the new people with your threats of being taken to court if they don't follow the guidelines or loss of work if they make a mistake. No one has ever been taken to court for mystery shopping. Lighten up, please.

Speaking of dinner....

LOADED BAKED POTATOES

2 large potatoes

4 oz cream cheese

4 slices bacon crumbled

1 C cheddar cheese

4 T butter

Bake the potatoes and slice them in half when done. Scoop out most of the potato and add all ingredients except bacon to it in a bowl. Mix well and spoon back into the potato halves. Top with crumbled bacon and additional cheese, and bake for 15 more minutes at 350.

Following guidelines, not following guidelines. Each newbie can decide.

That's the way I shop. I look to get the job done for the best pay. I'm an Independent Contractor, not an employee.
So far in this thread I have identified buzzkills, critter killers, name callers, clever folk who type in couched terms (needlessly, as it turns out), and pots calling kettles black. [Elsewhere, I was told-- after I had abandoned a thread, mind you-- that I continued to debate there for the sake of debate. The person who told me this announced to ladymacleod that they would continue to do that in this thread.]

If this goes on any longer (and if I choose to read it) I will have to create a cheat sheet and bring it with me every time I open up this thread. Mwahaha!

Better get your bacon NOW!! Heard on the radio today that 50% of the world's pigs are raised in China, and there is some sort of disease that has traveled from Europe, into Africa and now into Asia, and is infecting and killing the pigs! They say bacon and pork prices will be going up next year!! Better get those bacon pkgs now and freeze them for later!!
Oh, don't be so hard on yourself, LOL!

4. They are being fed, and they might be habituated. That is not foraging..

Well, I imagine some people come running when they are called, eh SEA? My squirrels are probably less habituated but might be in better physical condition than others. And yet, they still move quite a bit...hmmm.
@Susan L. I have an incredible imagination, so your post about squirrels with thunder thighs just made my day. OMG I needed that laugh!

My squirrel problem exists in that one fuzzy batard likes to hide his nuts in my plants. Once when I had the loveliest avocado tree sprouting, he mistook my pit for a seed and I could have strangled him, but there's not a lot of good places to hide nuts on an island.

Shopping the South Jersey Shore
You have an avocado tree? Is it in a container or in the ground? How did it do?

Johnb - I understand about some shops having challenging guidelines. If they are so challenging where I can not follow rules, I don't accept it. Being an independent shopper means the right to accept or not accept a shop. It does not mean the right to do a job as required or not.
As for the bathroom situation, that's an easy one as I've had it explained to me. The client usually want's to know if employees are assisting customers (Can I help you find something?) or not. By going directly to the employee, you gave the employee points they did not earn. Same thing in many situations, giving employees points they haven't earned.

"I know what the shop guidelines say, but there are some shops where you really need the guidelines with you or you risk not getting paid." I'm curious, what other guidelines have you decided to ignore because they are inconvenient to you to follow? As a poster said above, if you can't follow the guidelines, maybe you're taking the wrong shops.

I've had shops that ask you to check the restroom, but do not ask any employees where they are. I've seen shops for restaurants that ask you not to ask for a take home bag. In both cases they say it might tip the employee off that you're a shopper. Those guidelines make no sense. As if only mystery shoppers would do this.

Also many shops ask that you do not reveal yourself as a mystery shopper, YET the guideline questions tip off the employee you're a mystery shopper. I've had store managers tell me they know who the mystery shoppers are by the questions they ask or what they order.

The employees ask if you need help anytime they see you. With the bathroom, you are told NOT to ask any employee where the bathroom is. The guidelines do not tell you to give the employee time to help you. This is ridiculous. Any normal customer will ask. The employee has many opportunities to ask if you need help.

ROTFLMFAO. I'll happily pit my ability to think against your inability to follow guidelines any day of the week.
Please forgive me. My cheat sheet for this thread is not at hand.

WTF!?!?!

Thank you.
