Tax Mystery Shop - Schedule C Question

Since we are not allowed to let them know we are mystery shopping them, what type of business do you tell them you are in so they can fill in "Line 2 on schedule C : Describe the business or professional activity that provided your principal source of income". Also, do you have to show them your spreadsheet with the shops listed or will they just take the figures etc. that you give them written on a piece of paper? Thanks for any suggestions.

I cannot tell you what to do. I can only tell you what I've done. "Small Business Consultant" is my job title. I NEVER take 1099's. If they ask for them, I just say, oh, I got so many, I didn't know you needed them all. I made a list, here's the total on each 1099.

They have always prepared from my list.

My list DOES include the provider's Federal ID number (found on the 1099).

You are required to attach w-2s to the return; you are NOT required to attach 1099s.

Same thing with expenses. I give them the list, they go by that.
