Center stage?

No more guessing. Let's just call it "Entertainment" and not blow my cover winking smiley
I have lost 60 pounds last year. I just finally made my health very important. I don't take any of the ff jobs anymore and in fact haven't even eaten at a ff restaurant for maybe 6 months. I only eat at restaurants when they have healthy food items.

I counted calories for years with MFP. I lost weight and gained weight and lost weight and .... You get the picture. Finally settled on a high-carb diet and lost weight without any weighing or measuring of food. Whole foods, plant based is the best diet for me.

High carb? How does that work?

That’s the best diet to combat global warming and climate change as well.

Lots and lots of veggies until you stuff yourself so much with it that you're full? Veggies are mostly very, very low calorie density.

Very infrequently shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado these days.
Most veggies are low carb. Breads, pastas, rice and fruit are high carb and put the weight on.

Does anyone remember the Fit for Life diet? With this, you ate only fruit in the morning (unless you were ravenous and after so many minutes you added bread). This involved water-rich foods and a system of combining foods. The idea was to avoid overburdening your digestive tract with fermentation and sluggishness. What about Abravanel's four body types? If your body fit neatly into one of those categories, you could follow a plan for your body type. Apparently, some people had success with each approach. I will not argue with the person who figured out what worked for them. I will congratulate them!!!!! Well, I liked their post.

But ultimately, veggies ARE a carb, right? Fiber = carb.

Does anyone remember the Cottage Cheese and Grapefruit diet. I think the point was you got so sick of eating only those two things you drastically cut down your calories to make it through the two weeks. I gained a lot on that diet. Yes, you need to find the diet that fits you and if it is unlimited eating of whatever food you are allowed to eat the hope is that you will grow to hate it and not eat too much. Doesn't work for me.
Fruit, potatos and corn are heavy on carbs. Fiber subtracts something from the carb content. Veggies are high in nutrients, but low in carbs. That's why they can be included in any diet.

I stated earlier that "Veggies are mostly very, very low calorie density," so yes, I udnerstand that potatoes are carb dense. Fiber are carbs our bodies don't digest. I'm suggesting high on veggies as a "high carb," as you can get yourself stupid full off of 1/4 lb of broccoli and chicken breasts, but only really intake <1,500 calories throughout the day, or less. I mainly know this from experience, as it stems back to my heavy calorie counting days when I cut lots of weight.

When I think "high carb," I don't think diet or veggies. Veggies are low fat, high fiber, high nutrient and low carb. They are great for us as long as we don't slather them with stuff to make them taste good.

@SteveSoCal, have you lost weight since shelter in place began?
SoCalSteve looks fabulous, but I’m sure he will come back with the details.

I’ve lost at least 5 pounds in 5 weeks. It could be more. I ate good the first ten days of March. No Del Taco and El Pollo Loco for a month will do that. smiling smiley. Plus, no sitting in bars and drinking whiskey all evening.
I have been eating more than usual, but I also have been walking a few miles a day. I have no idea what I weigh but my clothes aren't too tight and I am sleeping like a baby, so all must be well in the kingdom.
I think Tarantado and HonnyBrown are talking about the glycemic load of various foods. Each food has a rating for glycemic index and glycemic load. Smart peeps!

I must say that if we really do have to hunker down for weeks and months after the end of April, I will have to pull out all the stops and do my shop/cook/clean up once, eat for a few weeks schtick. It is cost effective and a major time saver. Now, this is possible only if foods that we can eat (medical concerns) are available and I am allotted enough of them to accomplish this affordable method of feeding my family. Otherwise, it will be necessary to go to the store and/or order online as many times as necessary to accumulate enough food-- despite the fact that our food dollars have been reduced and we are commanded to stay at home/stay away from stores.

Truth be told, I don't have a scale at home. I usually do that at the gym...

But...I have been really careful about monitoring what I eat. As of yesterday, I hit 4 weeks of cooking for myself and not eating at any restaurants, which is the first time in my adult like I have ever done that.

I have also been working from home full-time throughout all of this, and that's the hardest part. It's more time-consuming for me to work from home so my exercise and food prep time has been limited. I took the holiday weekend off from work and got some time outside, so I plan to come out of this in better shape than I went into it.

The break from MSing the past month has been good for me as well. It's simplifies things. I have work life and home life. That's it.

And, "Steve," we need to talk about that time when I was five and you never showed up!

The entertainment aspect gives "do you want to sit on Santa's lap" a whole new perspective....as an adult, mind you, sestra, not your five year old self. Eww.

About the high carb thing, there are a lot of people who work out strenuously who need a high carb diet. Look at Michael Phelps and LeBron James. Yes, there is a good balance of protein in there, but you don't get to a 5,000 calorie a day diet without a ton of carbs. Total protein would be dangerous, as would total high carbs without a good balance of fats and protein.

Those keto diets and low carb diets usually don't work out well because they are unsustainable in the long run, and additionally, keto is rough on kidneys and other organs in the long term, especially if you have underlying health issues. Stay away from fad diets.

I had asked the people at Cirrus to help distribute gifts that year. You may need to remind them....
Dayum. Asking the Circus to help out Santa Claus...
