Plus there is only a 2 day time frame, today and tomorrow!
Yeah, that is ridiculous.

Mine have a six day window.
They just moved them. Mine were today thru Friday. They moved them to next week, and i see that some of them are the following week.

Well, I just checked...in my area, there are 12 listed, and they still only have a 2 day window, today and tomorrow. And seeing as how it's after 9 pm, that really only leaves tomorrow. Perhaps they will move the date tomorrow!
I've noticed a new scheduler for my area with the regular box shops. I have been attributing the crazy dates to the possible greenness of the scheduler.
I usually buy my boxes at Staples but was near OfficeMax today so I figured I'd buy it there for my shop next week. Much to my amazement, the box rang up at over $5 including tax! I told them to forget it and that I would go to Staples, where they are a dollar. Has anyone found them to be that expensive at OM/OD?

Now, if the MSC doesn't have a limit on the box cost, it probably would have worked for the shop since I'm mailing a 1.5 pound package in a nearby zone, so it should come out to $8.25, and adding a $5 box would still keep me under the $14 reimbursement max. But I didn't think of that at the time

If you scavenge - rather than buy - boxes, you have more leeway on the actual postage, which is handy in case your weight is a bit over 2lb.
I use Amazon boxes that I cut the slide and flip it inside out. I've been receiving a lot of padded bubble mailers from Amazon as well. Those flip inside out as well. I tape a piece of paper to the outside with the address and am good to go! If I'm shipping from a city outside of my own, I just send the package pack to my home address, remove any mailing stickers, tape a new address on the top, and send it again! The rice gets some miles on it! Of course, this is if I don't have anything real to send!

That only really applies if I'm not mailing it locally and the package isn't very heavy. The only time I've mailed something not within the NY metro area was when I had to return a plumbing item for another shop. But I can see where that would be an issue for some people.

Hadn't thought of flipping the box, that is a good idea and avoids having to peel stuff off. Unfortunately I don't have anything big enough from them for this shipment. However, I just found as 12x6x6 box that I had sent myself for an earlier shop and that will fit my stuff this time.
I guess it would be hard with New York as the city because I'm sure there are a LOT of establishments there and most are the same zone. I'm lucky that there are several cities within a reasonable distance from me so I can mail a lot back to myself. A do mail a lot to a friend in a nearby city and I just collect the boxes and rice from her when I see her next - if she wasn't hungry for rice in the meantime!
I just use either a cake box or a pound box of baking soda. I cover them with wrapping paper that comes on a roll from the dollar store. Works like a charm.
For Regular Box you can ship in the same zone but
It has to go to a different zip code that the location you're sending from. And there are lots of zips in NYC!
So, after 5 emails and having no response, my 10-days-overdue location was moved to "my applications."

I hope that I never have an issue with any of these shops. I had the personal cell phone # of 2 of my 3 schedulers before the reassignment/layoffs.

I wonder if the different zip code requirement is because if you ship to the same zip, they don't need to ask the hazardous materials question since it never leaves the post office.

Anyway, while I am in New York I am not in NYC. Occasionally I will mail myself an item if I have no one to send it to. I use my synagogue's mailing address a few towns over as the return address, so long as I'm not shopping my local PO.

I keep wondering if you can turn those envelopes inside out but never got around to asking. So you have the bubble stuff on the outside and they take it? I also have seen some of the white vinyl envelopes that have a dark grey inside and wondered if those could be used inside out. Has anyone used the vinyl or plastic envelopes that are not white?
It is a lot easier to turn an envelope inside out than a box. i do boxes occasionally and I end up using a lot of tape or they feel flimsy.
