Big Lots is back... With no fee

I saw several Big Lots shops posted in my area and clicked one.... they are still offering up to $5.00 to reimburse your purchase, but no fee.

Saw this too and was disappointed... I thought it was barely worth it for the low fee and now that there is none.. no thank you.
I think that they always started at no fee, didn't they? I will bite when it hits $15.
That's insane! At least with the modest fee, a shopper was not out of pocket for a small purchase. What's the purpose of doing the shops now?

I think it's $0 fee and $5 reimbursement.
People will think of it as a coupon.
Opanel shares--I'll pass. This is business, not charity.

Bob agrees--In a nutshell, that says it all.

That is just insulting. I did these shops about 3 years ago and the fee was $10 with a reimbursement of $5. Not great but the report was fast and I shop there for toilet paper anyway but there is no way I am I going to fill out a report and submit receipts for a coupon.
People.

Some bottom feeding shoppers will drive to the store, buy $5 worth of stuff, drive home and do the report. Next month, they will get reimbursed $5.

No thanks.

Shoptastic - you need to edit your post. Client mentioned and everyone can guess the MSC from the abbreviation.
I never linked the client to BIg Lots. I was re:'ing a post from iblori, which referenced that MSC. iblori never said BIg Lots was at that MSC. People frequently talk about OTHER MSCs not of a client in the same thread as a way of gauging overall industry practices/rates. I also said I saw a retail shop and never identified it as Big Lots.

I guess it's too much to assume people would realize this, though, eh? winking smiley

I thought I was being extra careful. You have to make the assumption that we're linking that MSC to Big Lots. But, ah well. I understand. The human bring just assumes you're talking about the MSC that does the client if you talk about an MSC in general in a thread with a stated client.
I would only do a Big Lots shop if I also had an Instacart shop at the same location and if I needed something. Otherwise, I’ll pass.
Yes, back for me as well in NY. I've only done them with a bonus, I think I've gotten $12. Last time I did the store shop (as opposed to furniture). What a disaster, you need to walk around the store expecting someone to offer you assistance I know we're not supposed to have pre-conceived notions when we go into the store but my BL is just so terrible (maybe they all are) that I KNEW I would get terrible service, and they did not disappoint. Only problem was that it took a ridiculous amount of time walking around the store waiting for then to (not) offer assistance before I finally went to find someone at the register. If I take the shop again, I'd only do the furniture version. At least there is usually an employee in that department and it can get done relatively quickly.

Reading is fundamental to success.
I said that I'd bite at $15. That means $15 plus $5.
Darling, the idea of viewing this as a coupon is yours. The average person would see it for what it is: an insult, not a coupon.

People took the same MSC's bookstore shops for free with a $5 reimbursement for a drink purchase. I never took it for that price but at least one person here said that they did since they needed to go there to buy a book for their child, even if there was no reimbursement for the book. BTW I believe that chain has stopped shopping and this was before the CV started. There was an article in the NY Times last year about how the new CEO disliked mystery shopping so I guess it wasn't a big surprise. On the other hand, the shopper contact at the MSC was surprised when I told her about the article after the shops disappeared.

i.) I've personally not been shopping, but if I still were I'd just say no (remember those commercials to drug usage back in the day)?

ii.) I mentioned this in another thread, but I wonder if MSCs are desperate. They are small businesses and many did not get PPP loans. If they have had a reduction in client contract values and/or dropped shopping programs altogether, then they could conceivably be more desperate than shoppers who may have $1,200 stimulus + enhanced unemployment to tide them over during this time. Many people have actually earned more from not working the past few months than what they earned while working.

My first thought when hearing about the zero fees (for multiple shops) was that shoppers had gotten desperate. But, then, I thought maybe it's the MSCs this time...????

That could be. But the MSCs need to remember that you get what you pay for.

The Big Lots shops with the fee would disappear quickly. I would snag 2 furniture ones.

They are still on the boards here.

I never do Big Lots anymore anyway. They always found a way to reject my report if it was negative. Laughable to think I would do it for no fee!

Happy Camper
I emailed the Help Desk and asked why none of the shops had fees. They replied that the July shops were released with no fees, and they don't know when fees will be reinstated.

The furniture shop at the store closest to me was taken almost immediately for no fee. The regular store shop sat for about a week and was finally given a $5.00 bonus, after which it was taken. Personally I won't take them until they offer at least $15.00. If others want to take them for less, more power to them.

They were never bonused here because the shops with the fee went so quickly. I was very surprised to see the furniture shop get picked up with no fee.

I guess people really are working for $5 coupons.
