Too Many Shoppers?

Into March, I received notification from one MSC that they received thousands of new shoppers for their company. With high unemployment and an economic downturn expected, the expectation was that there would be more shoppers and taken jobs would not be around.

Now, I'm finding jobs are not going very fast. I've gotten more bonused shops that ever before. True, I do not see as many shops, but one large MSC total number of shops on one of its platforms is near the same as before the shutdown.

It depends on the industry. Parking management clients have less than 5% of former number of shops. Certain banks, storage, and gas station clients have rally bounced back. Hotel stays, indoor dining, auto sales shops are all very scarce, as are oil changes.

Also, remember that many veteran shoppers are very wary of in-person interactions, still. And, newbies tend to flake A LOT.

The grocery shops around me get picked up pretty quickly, and without a bonus. I was able to get a $5 bonus before covid hit but now I don't bother with that company much anymore since there have been other companies with shops.

I was a little "worried" about those emails as well, since it sounded like all the new shoppers would pick up shops at a lower rate, but I agree with what walesmaven has to say, it's probably that a lot of people are still at home, and the newbies tend to flake.
Newbies do have one a high flake rate and two a higher chance to miss things that make the shop unacceptable. The latter can scare newbies off and out of the business as they don't realize that you are not guaranteed pay and most likely not going to be pad when guidelines are not followed to a tee. Both of these situations means shops come back on the board and close to, at, or past deadline. This means good bonuses for the reliable proven shoppers.
I believe and pray that this situation of abnormal due to covid-19 will pass.

You're right.Few months ago ,shops took forever to be assigned. Now withing the hour of the notification that isecretshop sends the shops are booked but thank God for the reputation system or else I would be pissed
Also, many schedulers and even a few MSCs have pledged to work as much as possible with their long-time shoppers. In precarious times, there seems to be a tendency to want "tried and true" folks. Schedulers need results to hold onto their jobs; MSCs need reliable results in order to keep clients from changing MSCs. A lot of the shops that I am doing will never see a job board or overtly favor established shoppers.

I have not gotten the pay that I got pre-Covid with Marketforce. I am not doing a shop for $3 that used to pay $25.
I have not shopped for MF for at least 12 years, I think. Pay and reimbursements for the shops that I typically do have not gone down. Some of the bank shops show bonuses late month. With other MSCs, $15-18 storage shops are sitting on the boards while $25 ones with simpler reports are available. A TON of fuel and grocery shops are unfilled in the DMV region and beginning to show bonuses.

I would prefer to complete more assignments. I do not collect any unemployment benefits, btw.

I have also found that the shops that are happening are staying on the boards for lengthy periods. I'm getting the same bonuses from MarketForce (although sometimes it takes a few more rounds of calls before we get to yes). A lot of BARE shops which I consider quite easy also stay on the board for weeks and weeks. The only exception has been the Presto safety shops, but perhaps that was simply because only a limited number of shops per brand were ever made available, giving the false impression of many "claimed" shops after the quota had been met. In the state I live in you could do 3-4 decently bonused shops a week without unemployment benefits being impacted, so I don't think that is a factor.
MD has generous UI benefits and I was surprised to find that can also do several shops with good fees per week without losing any benefits, so far. I am on the job boards every day for my go-to MSCs.

In my area I don't think there are any new shoppers and the old ones must not want to go out. Shops that used to go fast sit on the boards for weeks until they get big bonus.

The newbies will be gone soon when they find that they're losing money to do shops. I'm actually going to net more $ this year than last because so many are deciding NOT to shop out of fear or precaution.
