Assigned Shop Without my Permission

I received an email and a voicemail from a scheduler asking me to complete a shop in the same city as one I had already signed up for, but didn't answer because I was working. I have done both in the past, but this time only signed up for one. I logged into my shopper account and saw that I was assigned both shops. I was going to say that I could do it, but now I am annoyed. I never agreed to take the second one and don't feel that I should be held accountable for it. Has anyone else had a similar situation?

Sure. Happens all the time.

E-mail IMMEDIATELY if you do not wish to do the second shop.

Make it clear that you did not request, and will not accept. the shop.

And if you do want it, still send a professional email explaining what happened and ask that future shops only be assigned after your approval. Keep the email correspondence in case you need it in the future.

Yeah I hate it when schedulers do this — just because I’ve done a shop before doesn’t mean I will again. I’ve noticed a trend that they are usually the harder to fill shops — which usually mean they are out of the way — and the only reason I did them the first time was because I made a route. No route? No re-shop... unless you want to make up with it with a super high fee.

That said, Mintel is the one MSP that can get away with this — they never “assume” things unless they include a hefty bonus for the inconvenience. When I’ve been “surprised” it’s always a great surprise. Those schedulers are absolutely amazing, and I’ve never had to haggle once.

No scheduler should ever assume you can or will do a shop. It's unprofessional. What happens if the shop went unnoticed and wasn't completed and a deadline was missed? No doubt the shopper would be blamed.

I have had similar happen as well. Or, my favorite, is being asked to return to a location that you took because there was a super high bonus since no one was willing to do it originally - then they think they will pay you the non-bonused rate. I made sure I emailed that, contingent upon receiving the same pay I had previously, I would gladly contract to return.
