My First Bar Shop Texas Road House (May Be)..

I am thinking about doing a Texas Road House Bar Shop in the next few days. I know I can go by myself , I will have to sit at the bar (If they have the option of it at the time), and I will have to order something other than water.

Other than that how's the shop? Every time I go out to places like this I always eat in the dining room and I get either tea or water. I hate to sit at the bar and drink only tea.. I know I will need a stop watch to track timings

But can I do this shop without taking out my cell phone? I am NOT like most people who think they need their cells phones out every time they go out for lunch or supper and on non shops What happened to face to face talk ?) I hate to sit at the bar and I am the only one at the bar with out my cell phone and who only drinks tea.

Shall I brake my rules and take my phone out to make notes and then put it away?

ETA: I have always done the dine in part with my wife.. If I take this one I will just go myself.

Thanks

I have completed dozens of TRH bar shops and they are, by far, much easier. To address your concerns:

1-Alcohol is not required; I order orange juice.
2-Timings are not required.
3-Unless you have a terrible memory, you will not need notes. IF so, you can easily use the men's room.
4-Sitting at the bar is not optional, but in 11 years of bar shops, I only needed to wait once and that was perhaps five minutes.

The primary reason I prefer the bar is the pay, $25 for one vs. $35 for two, is obviously higher. Secondarily, I do not need to consider a guest's schedule. Tertiarily,, the report is much shorter.
I think the shop is a whole lot easier than the dining room too. I wouldn't feel odd about drinking a non-alcoholic beverage (maybe you just really prefer eating at the bar when by yourself). Mostly remember the names of the staff and how they treated you. The bar shop doesn't ask about timings or the food & you don't call ahead either.
Thanks for the replies so far. Every time I go out to Chill's or someplace that has a bar I always eat at the table.

Since COVID is still around and they still have limited setting at the bar, I may call and see if the bar is open and I will go around lunch time.. That way I will get a table and not have to wait long.

If the food is good, this will be a good shop. My lady friend was the one that did the shop but we quit doing them for the closest on to us was the worst food. That location in NM is curbside pickup at the moment.
CHECK your paperwork closely for you have specific actions to do plus you have to have a meal. I recommend recording the shop to catch the find points and timing points that they are looking for in this shop.
4031a states--I will get a table and not have to wait long.

Bob comments-In my area of SW Ohio, a report will be rejected if one sits at a table in the bar area.
Like Bob I’ve done many of these. A solo diner sitting belly up to the bar drinking an iced tea does not attract any attention. Pre-Covid I frequently sat at the bar to eat on my own dime if I was solo. This is a very easy shop. Just check out the survey in advance to see what “magic words” you’ll be listening for from your bartender.
When by myself, almost always request a bar top so I'm not taking up a table for four. TRH are easy reports and the food is good. No alcohol is required so you can certainly order a an iced tea or soft drink and you won't be the only one at the bar doing that. Enjoy!!
You mentioned going at lunch. The only shops I've seen in my area are dinner shops. Make sure you check for day/evening times. I used to do a lot of these, pre-covid. I'm looking forward to doing these again, when my comfort level allows it. smiling smiley
Before I posted here I asked the schedule and she says that I have to order an alcoholic drink but I don't have to drink it.

The mass email that she sends out says that I cannot order water and only one alcoholic drink if you choose. It did not say that it was required.

If I have to order a nasty alcoholic drink then I may not do it.
When I do the bar shops, I always order a ginger ale. I never look out of place. I notice people around me drinking soft drinks too. And I have never gone over reimbursement on the bar shops. I started doing the bar shops and said I'd never do another dining room shop. Then Covid came and I don't feel safe sitting at the bar now. I'm doing my second dining room in three months tomorrow.
The instructions say it must be a charged beverage (anything but free water). The bar at the location near me is always packed unless you go as soon as they open.
According to the mass email it said that I can go from open till one hour before closing.

All the dine in shops I have done in the past have been after 4 PM. Which have been several of them.

However, the last two shops I did one was at lunch and one at supper and they were both approved.

At first I was not going to do them because I did not wanted to order a alcoholic drink and not drink it and the server asks me why I am not drinking and two I thought it might be kind of odd just to order tea

Thanks again for your help
So many people are choosing not to drink alcohol these days that you won't look out of place at all.

I fell better now smiling smiley Hope other people will follow suit and while I am there no one will be drinking alcohol
Just as an aside...I'm choosing to drink MORE alcohol these days...bring it on!!

Texas Roadhouse is only open for lunch on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays. Major holidays on weekdays and around Christmas they tend to open for lunch but for the most part, they're not Monday through Thursday.

I noticed the at the bar shops this round allowed for lunch if you happen to pick a day that they were open for lunch.
On weekdays, our Roadhouse opens at 3 PM.

It's a good idea to confirm with the guidelines and the scheduler that you can go at lunch. The email requests may say "30 minutes after open -30 minutes before closing." But the guidelines for the bar shops may specifically say "after 4 pm" or something like that. Drinking tea at the bar is nothing out of the ordinary, BTW. Enjoy!
I have done a lot of the bar shops, but not since the quarantine. Very easy. I always look like I stopped in after work, after a meeting, or I'm at a nearby hotel. No drink since I have to drive. I just kept running into the same bartender, so I had to act like I was back in town visiting. The weird part was always the bar regulars who stare at the woman sitting at the bar by herself.
I did TRH last night. The specs say one drink, other than water. It does not have to be alcoholic.

Check out an app called ShopIT. It appears like a messenger app (sort of) but is excellent for doing timings and anyone glancing over your shoulder assumes you are texting someone. I've used it frequently, and while it does need some improvements, it is less conspicuous than simply typing in a note app.
