This seems a little weird - home improvement shops

Anyone seen "new" home improvement shops where you put a high-ticket item in your cart and then ditch it at the register? For 8 bucks? I'd feel awful for doing that.

I've done that outside of shops: "Mmm...maybe this power tool won't be a good purchase after all!"

Is this the one advertised as easy report, several pictures and yes or no questions or something like that?
i did one of these earlier this year, the report was super simple. there were two “gotchas” that made the shop take longer than it should at my local store. the first was that a lot of the big ticket item(s) to put in the cart were locked in their departments, away from customer reach. i had to scour the store for something that would be considered a higher priced item. the other was finding an associate in the assigned department - i walked around for a good 10 minutes in the department before an associate appeared, and even then i wasn’t sure if they were the correct person. didn’t matter, got paid. $8 is only worth it if you’re going to somewhere near there, and only saw them get to $10 ($2 bonus) before they disappeared.
I took one before I found out you had to have an item for $500 or more. Hard to find something to fit in a cart for over $500 in that store. I had a nearby associate put a huge boxed Christmas tree in the cart and used that. Neither of the associates did what they were supposed to do, but the shop was easy once I found the pricey item. Don't think I'll do another at that fee though. Left the cart with the tree near the register..Their problem, not mine.

I did this the last round, when it was bonused. I put several items that totaled $500 in my cart. My problem was that there were no checkout lanes that weren't self-service. I explained everything in my report, from the several items to the fact that I had to hunt down an employee and ask "the question" that is supposed to be asked at checkout. My report was eventually accepted. I don't know if they have specified that one item has to be put in the cart now. I would not do this shop at base rate.
I don't think I'd take this shop again even if I was already in the store. Too much hassle for not enough pay. The schedulers said things like "just two quick questions" and "easiest shop ever." I did one before, and if you are honest and do all of the steps listed in the guidelines, it is not quick or easy (or fun).
The description of the shop says "Literally, 2 photos, 2 yes/no questions." How can there be just 2 questions with all that is required of the shop? Just wondering if their description is totally inaccurate.
Totally agree that "easy to do is easy to say." I never accept a shop I haven't done before based on a verbal pitch from an MSC.
I did 2 of them. The report had no narratives and just 2 yes/no questions and 2 photos. I completed it in the parking lot in less than 5 minutes. I put two $300 faucets in my cart and just said my wallet fell out of my purse in the car and I’d be right back.
