I wonder how many shops actually get done?

I know there has to be frustration on both sides, from shoppers and editors of MSC. I wonder what percentage of shops are taken, but never get done, from people flaking out or writing a report so bad, they cannot use it?

As a former editor, it depends. The one company I worked for did a lot of high-end events so there was a lot of pressure to get as much information and accurate information to use as you couldn't send somebody back when the event had already passed. Flaking wasn't too much of a problem because a credit card was on file to cover the cost of the tickets in the event a shopper flaked. That company had quite a few reports that ended up being declined by the client. That's when they started requiring credit cards to prevent people from bailing on the reports or not showing up.

The other company I worked for, we had very few reports we couldn't use. Most of the time we could use them even if they weren't perfect or a minor guideline got missed.
Through the years, I have discussed the issue of flaking with the owners of two small MSCs and a few schedulers. Realizing the numbers would be based upon the individual assignment, the company's pay and the experience of the shopper, the numbers I recall ran from 10 to 50%.

16 years ago, a security company, Graymark, decided to enter shopping. They folded that branch after four years, with the head stating to me the aggravation of flaking was a reason. What was strange to me was they paid well and were quite easy to please. I received $15 + an open ended reimbursement, a week to complete the shop, no guest or ordering requirements and, until they were being screwed, no receipt necessary.
