What's involved in an I-9 verification?

I have done OSIs but none of these yet. The pay is so low that I've never considered doing one. But a decent PAD is being offered, so I'm thinking about this one. Is it examining legal documents to ensure legal status? Do I have liability if I would fail to catch an error or fake? Are they quick?

I have done several. You meet the employee at a public location, preferably with wifi. You download a separate app used to upload the I-9 docs. You verify the employee's identity and upload the docs.

I consistently had issues with the app. The MSC does not respond when issues occur.

The app is terrible! I have yet to get a successful verification done. It tells you not to take a picture of their ID but I'm not sure what happens if you can't get it successfully submitted.
I have done quite a few. The app is quirky but sometimes rebooting the phone helps get the app working. I try to pick a spot with good wifi so that I can use the business wifi instead of my phone data plan. That seems to help. A lot of times I call/text the person and request a different location. The locations given by MSI are often without parking, decent wifi or a place to sit. It is not our job to catch fakes and I never worry about it. The fakes are Equifax's worry. Equifax is the party doing the actual verifying.
I've done quite a few and have learned that its better to do them on my laptop. If you go to the website and enter the information there (Take the pictures on your phone, send to your laptop), it is all very quick and easy. The mobile app is a pain in the neck. So if you have a laptop you can use, thats what I'd recommend! Then its a 15 minute engagement and you are all done. I recently spoke to Equifax and they recommended against using the app, which isn't at all documented in the MSC's guidelines.
The last one I did was from my laptop! The app kept crashing and there was no support from the MSC. I didn't want to hold up the employee so I took the pictures with my phone, went home and finished on my laptop.

The app is lousy and always has been. I always end up taking backup photos of everything that is required using my phone and uploading them if necessary (not always necessary) using my PC. the last one that I did had to be scheduled on a Saturday or Sunday. No problem for me. But the app had issues and Equifax only works 9 - 5 (or something close to that) on Monday through Friday. I did the best I could on site and finished up on my PC. The shop was accepted.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
I HATE these shops with a white hot passion, especially if they are from another country. Maybe 10% go through without a hitch. I've wasted hours on the phone with the Equifax help desk trying to get the app to work.
