Sizing audits

500 items need to be checked. Is this insane? Anyone spent time completing this for $17?

I tried one time, it was bonused very nicely and the store was less than 30 miles from me. I couldn't do it. The store doesnt have any help for mobility impaired folks, and I couldn't read the tags without my reading glasses. I tried twice the first day, then i went back another day properly drugged and with my readers on, and still couldn't manage more than 30 minutes without something to sit on. So i gave up.
I do them. Most of the time I spend approximately 30 minutes in-store. I think most people who do these have their own system of efficiency. There are a few categories that I know will always be a mess, so I always look at what it to be audited before taking them.

I agree with Kathy. They usually don't take more than 30 minutes unless it's something weird like shoes or underwear, which typically is a disaster.
30min to 1hr in the stores in my area. the less organized, the more time. once you get a system in place it’s a breeze. i agree with morledzep though, it’s not good if you have limited mobility or need eyesight help. although the eyesight help is mitigated by taking a picture of the store tag for each category with your phone - you just have to make sure the full store sku is readable.

It's never been worth it.
I agree with THUNDER. Unless one is desperate for money, after the prep, round trip and report are factored, these assignments are ill advised.
I actually like buying my clothes at this store, but am too impatient to sort through all the stuff without an incentive. I do these all the time because I am actually clothes shopping while doing the audit. If I have to look at the sizes in a category I wear anyway, might as well browse. These are some of my favorite shops actually, it usually takes me less than 30 minutes to do the actual work. It's pretty easy.
These take me maybe 25 minutes. I do the report as I go and and take pictures of 1 tag of each category as a back up to writing a sku wrong. If shoes is a category i just count the shoes of the stickers I can see without moving the shoes which saves a bunch of time. If pants is a category I try to do jeans or dress pants as they usually have a tag on the outside waist of the jeans so you can move through them fast. When I have a shirt category instead of moving the clothes by the hanger I pull the neck/collar down and towards me so I can see the tag or printed size on the shirt. The worst category for me is the bras. Its hard to find the sizes on them quickly. Hope this helps.
I've done one, highly bonused, and it took me almost an hour because it was my first time. I'd do another one, but only when there's a whopping big bonus. The only location near me that gets bonused is almost 45 minutes from here, which is the one I did (mostly to get the practice) and rarely gets up to where I need it to be in order to do it. The fee was worth the time in-store, but not with the travel.

My local locations don't seem to be shopped at all anymore, and the next nearest store is about 30 minutes away. That one doesn't get bonused, though. I asked for one last time, and one was extended, but not enough unless I could find another shop to tag onto it. Which I couldn't.

I can't imagine doing these for base fee, even if I had a good system in place and the store was just down the road.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.

My short answer: "Yes, insane!"
I tried one once, and it took 81 minutes. During that time, every store employee on the floor approached me at least twice. No more for me!
I do them all the time - sometimes 2-3 a day. They only take me 25-30 minutes. I use my notes app, and photograph a tag for each section so I don’t have to write anything down. I typically will browse in my own size as I do them so I’m shopping at the same time.
