What you can learn from mattress shopping

I did 3 of these today, same chain, 3 locations close to each other.
Amazingly, all 3 salespeople recommended the same mattress models to me.
At the end, they each wrote up quotes....funny how none of the prices - for the exact same models - are the same. Each store sells them at a different price.
Mattresses are a racket I tell ya lol.

No kidding! Sometimes I wonder what exact lobbyist convinces states to rule the sale of used mattresses illegal?

It is illegal in many states.

Ridiculous, as mattresses are shockingly expensive.
Used mattresses can be a haven for bed bugs and other creepy things.

After doing a whole bunch of mattress shops, I ended up purchasing two new beds! Bought a Tempur-Pedic for the guest room to try. It. Fell in love with it and just bought a second one for the master.

So this ended up costing me 10 grand when I thought both mattresses were perfectly acceptable prior to doing a whole bunch of mattress shops lol
Back in 2018 I shopped at a store that was discontinuing the Tempur-Pedic brand and selling off all their floor models. I ended up getting a sweet discount.

I can see that happening. I did one mattress shop on the phone, and I was wanting a new mattress before I hung up. The fun thing about mystery shopping is that we learn all about the good stuff. The catch with mystery shopping is that we frequently end up wanting it.

Yes, I bought the floor model. Saved almost 3 grand on each bed.

Also they can negotiate even if they can't negotiate on the mattress. I got pillows, delivery, sheets, etc for free!
I learned that they only BEGIN to get serious about the price on the second call to the so-called district manager.

Based upon my shop experiences, I purchased a fancy schmancy bed. The whole, expensive thing! I got rid of it soon thereafter. I no longer get too worked up about the latest stuff in stores.

I want the fancy adjustable base!

I didn't think I was going to use it. But I got a really good deal and I really like it! So much. So when I bought the second bed, I bought the upgraded base for it also!
What I think is funny is no matter what I tell them as far as my sleep habits and such, when they put all their information into there software they always recommend exact same mattress! It is a kind of expensive one, too. Additionally, of course, it’s always the mattress that I’m actually lying on when they do the adjustable base demonstration as well. It’s just so funny! It doesn’t matter if I tell them I snore or not, sleep on my back or side, or any other variables that they ask. It’s just cracks me up! I’ve done hundreds of these mattress stores chain in several states. I pick them up pick when I’m traveling.
