Opinions please - how would you answer Kroger bagger questions?

Did a Kroger shop today. I went to a lane with both cashier and bagger. Since there were a few people ahead of me I was able to to get bagger description but her badge was covered by her hair. Just as I got to the register, the bagger left saying she would be right back. The cashier placed the items in the bags and left them on the belt. Meanwhile, another clerk who appeared to be going on break stopped to talk to the cashier. While there, she put the bags in my cart and said "thank you." Who would you identify as the bagger? Thx

In my experience, it was not at all uncommon for a bagger to leave while I was in line. I simply stated, if there were a slot for comment, that the bagger departed during my wait. To specifically reply to your query, in my opinion, neither cashier was the bagger; that is how I would rate the situation.
Put the bagger in. Describe the bagger, click the option saying that the badge was covered. And answer the questions about the bagger. There isnt any narrative, just answer the questions.

I would say N/A for bagger as there was no bagger. The cashier bagged your groceries. I have been in a line with a bagger and the person walked away before I got to her and the cashier bagged my groceries so I put N/A. And then checked no bagger available.

The bagger was not there when it was her turn so she was not the bagger. They want to know your encounter with the bagger.

If the bagger was there, and talked to me while the cashier was ringing up my items, then I include the bagger, even if they weren't there at the end to say thank you.

Thanks for your responses. It's interesting to see the differing viewpoints between shoppers!
Isn't one of the options that there was a bagger but that person left before the shoppers transaction began?

I personally would be annoyed that 'my' cashier was distracted by a co worker wanting to chat.
i would report this as “bagger not available”, and at the end of the report leave a brief note that would say “bagger left during my transaction”.

edit: i get that the comment box is for “receipt issues”, but have noted other issues in this box other than receipt issues, which have then been corrected in stores on subsequent visits.

Not with this current MSC. There aren't any places for narrative or commentary except to explain why you don't have a receipt.

There is no place for comments. Only a spot for receipt comments.

I agree I wou mark bagger not available as the person left before it was my turn.
N/A Bagger Not Available.

Do not read so much, look about you and think of what you see there.

Not as annoyed as a customer in front of you that waits until their huge order is scanned and bagged to get their payment ready. I've even seen people ask to sign up for the loyalty program after their order is scanned and bagged. Not the cashier/baggers fault, and not in the report, but annoying for sure.

What's the difference if you are checking out and you are on your phone the whole time and you don't say one word to the cashier? But yet if the cashier talks to some one else or another co-worker (while ringing up /bagging your stuff) you will get upset?

I don't see any difference in that..

I get annoyed when people go to a check out and they don't say one word to the cashier but they can talk on their phone... That is why I turn my phone off and keep it in my pocket while I am checking out..

I've found lately that everything I do a full service shop with a bagger, they leave my line -- I think because they see how few groceries I have, which means the cashier can easily bag the items without taking a lot of time. So the bagger goes to help at a busier line.

I have standing there with 3-4 items in between customers with ginormous carts filled to the brim. It practically shouts "I'm a mystery shopper!"

I do wish they had kept the option of "bagger was there when I entered the line but moved away before my transaction was finished."

That was still on my list last week as an option. Bagger left the lane before my transaction.
