Old Topic Perhaps...Caveat Emptor on Apartment Shops

There is an MSC that does mystery shopping in Texas. You have to call the complex and have a recorded telephone conversation, then go to the complex and record audibly or visually the interaction.

Well, the phone call must come first. IF they don't answer, you don't get to visit. Over 2 weeks, I called this complex over a dozen times. I sent about a half-dozen e-mail messages to the scheduler about this. I was told to fill out 3 of the 9 sections on the shop report.

The pay went from being in the high double digits to $5.00.

Although sometimes I miss, with time, once I realized that it could be a very real issue with some of the MSCs, if there are calls involved and they don't put a cap on the number of calls that you are required to make, I don't take the shop. I've been burned pretty good on a few of those as well. Although most will likely go just fine, the one that goes wrong can end up messing with your productivity on who knows how many days. Caveat emptor is an understatement.

Well, I don't expect full payment. But certainly they are aware of what other companies pay for phone shops...where you make one call; no messages, etc... Half would be acceptable for me.
I'm not calling/contacting more than 3 times for this very reason. $5 for that much work chasing folks is disrespectful. They now have good data on how evasive the apartment staff are.
Ditto on what Swilli said. Unless they want to compensate accordingly for an unlimited number of attempts, I do not take shops that don't have a cap on how many call attempts are required before calling it a wrap. Whereas the call itself may take less than a minute, you are going to botch the shop and likely have it rejected, and not get paid an ever loving dime, if you don't refresh yourself on the guidelines every single time you make an attempt. That never ending skim back through the guidelines can burn up even more time than the unlimited call attempts, and if you have even a mildly busy calendar, you are going to have to go back through them to keep your backstories straight. Disrespectful on what they are paying for these things is one more understatement.

Many yrs. ago, I had expended the number of blocked number calls I was willing to attempt in setting an appointment at an apt. community. The MSC decided to waive that requirement, I had almost 200 completed shops for them, and I immediately was able to speak with the agent. While we sat in her office, a call came in that was blocked and she mentioned to the maintenance man it was probably a shopper. So YES, some of these workers are evading a contact and shoppers are wasting their time.
I hope you mentioned her comment to maintenance in your report.

Maybe I have them mixed up with another company but didn't they want you to refrain from taking pictures of the apartment with your phone because it would supposedly "give you away"? To me, it sounds like it would be just the opposite.

Just be cool folks.
condor,

Perhaps you have my post confused with that of another shopper's; mine does not mention pics.
