Age discrimination

Has anybody experienced age discrimination from MSCs? I am told I have a stellar record but I am getting offers of shops for food and $0 fee or low fee amounts and fewer offers than before . The reimbursement is always short, so I decline. In 9 years I've never missed a shop, been late or been questioned about my reports.

i'm not following - do you think you are being discriminated against for being too old or too you?

Personally, I'm not sure the MSCs are sophisticated enough to offer different fees to shoppers based on age, but we learn something new everyday!
No, unless you count the obvious shops where they're testing for carding for alcohol purchases or things like that. But what exactly makes you think any MSC's are commiting age discimination? I think they're equally offering crappy fees and low reimbursements to all ages.
It's not discrimination. MSCs cry broke and pay cheaply to shoppers of all ages, races, religions and experience.
Things are generally a little slow after the holiday season. As to age discrimination, of all the businesses out there, mystery shop projects are often looking for very specific demographics. I am not sure you could call it discrimination. Over time, I've aged out of some shops that I used to love. However, other opportunities open up for every age group.

Food shops that only cover reimbursement are pretty common in the industry. It is not just you. I pick and choose when it comes to that. I like mid-range restaurants and will take such at reimbursement only if I like the food and I feel like it is worth my time. I almost never take fine dining these days because most of them pay very little, frequently cost significantly more than they reimburse, and tend to be very labor intensive. I am not sure some of the problem on the fine dining is that they flat have not kept up with the covid related price increases. Most of the fast-food shops don't pay a lot, but I am partial to Five Guys, so I do take those, but not much other in that category for the reasons you state, not worth the time and money.

@whopperbob is old. He's admitted this on several occasions. He talks about business and refers to what he did in the 60s and 70s. I don't see him questioning age discrimination from any MSC.
Just wish the MSC handling BarTaco here in the NYC area would stop emailing me when I'm clearly outside their desired age range.
I don't know about age discrimination, but your post reminded me if Cirrus Marketing could be engaging in discrimination against mobility impaired people. Their storage shops say you can not perform them if you need assistance of a mobility device.

Their emails say you are disqualified if ..."You cannot walk without a mobility device"
I usually only post in subjects that deal with profitability, BUT, in that Daddy has mentioned my age status, it is 80. It is my opinion, the pendulum has swung far to greatly to the left. Two examples are:

1-I live and have for 49 yrs., on a hill so steep, I have never seen a biker attempt to scale. Some yrs. back, the city, answering a complaint, dispatched a crew to break up the concrete and pour wheelchair ramps at an intersection in the middle; none of which I have ever seen used. Not content, another crew appeared a few yrs. later and installed metal traction nubs for the nonexistent chairs.

2-A friend of mine, who is known for both his compassion and honesty, owned a skating rink. He decided to increase the capacity of the men's room, but although he had never experienced anyone entering in a wheelchair, was required to include accessible areas; he scrubbed the project.

At some point, it is impractical and sometimes impossible to please everyone. Folks, if a client has criteria, that IS business. They, understandably, would nor desire teenagers to query a cashier on the merits of Geritol.
You do realize their is no such thing as discrimination in this industry as we are independent contractors, not w-2 employees?

Koko,

I tried to apply for one of their phone shops because I was outside their desired age range, I was denied. I e-mailed the scheduler and was able to do the very easy phone shop for them. I told her there was no way they could tell my age over the phone. She said I was out of the demographic they wanted and scheduled the shop.

However, I do understand your frustration. Perhaps, if your e-mail system allows, you create a rule that puts the BarTaco shops in your deleted file?
I'm 77 and turn down more shops than I accept.

Sometimes I have to get the age requirement waived.

I don't think getting shop emails of low fees or reimbursements has anything to do with your age. You may need to look at the job boards or sign up with different companies to find different types of shops with different fees.
I did one bank shop with my bank. The age for shop was set as 65y max. I wrote down to scheduler and they fixed the age limitations.

I am over 75 years mature so the subject of age discrimination is of interest to me. Does anyone know of any companies who want old guys to check for age discrimination?
I have never seen a shop like that. I assume you would want to report a store that does not want to serve you because you are youth challenged (as am I)?

Thanks Y'all. I think this forum is a good discovery. I appreciate the person who pointed out, as independent contractors we dont have to deal with age discrimination. I love learning and for 83 years have enjoyed adventures all over the world. This is going to be fun.
I was upset with Chipotle, which only accepts shoppers up to age 35. I think it was 18-35. This was when the restaurant was fairly new and they signed up with an MSC. I see all ages eating at Chipotle, don't see any reason why they only want shoppers age 35 or below. That is age discrimination.
I was in my 50s when I did Chipotle shops for the MSC that required the 3 footlong narratives in a single paragraph.
How have you been a successful shopper for 9 years (or more, just looking at how long you have been registered here) without the ability to read and comprehend?
Age discrimination does NOT exist in this field because you are not an employee. Oy!
