Irate Owner Encounters

I did one location that had drug paraphernalia visible. After the reveal, I immediately started to take pictures of the shelves, which were behind glass, by the register. The owner kept telling me it was legal and he could sell that stuff. I explained that the brand did not allow it, whether it was legal or not. He tried to get me to delete my pictures and got more and more irate. I was able to complete the audit, but never went back to that location again. I just am not paid enough to be yelled at. I have always wanted to go back and see if he was still selling that stuff.

I've done a couple with drug paraphernalia for sale. I was never confronted by the employees but they kept selling it, at least it was still there the next time I did the shop. Perhaps they make more selling it than whatever penalties the brand may impose on them.

You might do the shop again and just take those as your last pictures before leaving. Just a thought.
I have done plenty of shops with drug paraphernalia - they do make more selling those items than the fines they may incur from corporate. But I would never presume to tell them what they are and are not allowed to sell...I am just there to take pics and document...I try to be very discreet taking those pics smiling smiley

Not your job. Your job is to take the pictures and document it. If the owner has any questions you are supposed to tell them to go to the website, or call the 800 number on the LOA, or talk to the company representative that they normally deal with. Telling the owners what you percieve as a failure of the audit can get you removed from doing gas station inspections.
