Over the years I have made several very good friends of shoppers that I have met. Three are in my area, but we really do not compete much since mostly our interests in clients do not overlap much and this is rich MS territory. I have lunch once a month with one of those and often PM with another.

In addition, I have met a ton of shoppers, including many who are forum regulars or were in the past, at IMSC conferences. We have consumed a LOT of wine together. In addition, I have stayed in the homes of two of those, one in SC and one in MN, and shared a hotel room with another when we were both on long routes that happened to intersect in that town. The shoppers that I have personally interacted with have all been supportive of one another and do not feel threatened by other shoppers.

It is refreshing to know that I am not the only shopper on this forum who does not think of other shoppers as competitorssmiling smiley

I enjoyed chatting with you in the hotel bar at the conference. I can’t remember if it was Vegas or NOLA.

I attended numerous IMSC and MSPA conferences and stayed in touch with a few shoppers across the country. Two have stayed overnight at my house while route shopping. Locally, I am SO lucky to become friends with an intelligent, ethical, fun, generous, and overall great person/shopper.

Ditto smiling smiley

A great thing about being friends with another shopper that is ethical and responsible is that you can undertake large (even international) project together.

I met a ‘colorful’ shopper in Vegas. She drank like a fish and cussed like a drunken sailor.

She boasted about various scams she was in. The shopper ones focused on reusing old reports or writing reports before doing shops particularly elaborate hotel ones.

The IMSC conferences in Vegas were eye opening to me. As in 'how are these people not being outed within 5 minutes?'
There were only a handful of people there whose appearances were well kept, wearing fashionable clothing that looked moderate- high end....
Fast food, cell phone, etc type shops no big deal.... but fine dining/ high end retail/ resorts???
I met quite a few people, but only socialized with one guy. He was about my age, everyone else was a good 20+ years older than me.
cubbiecat,
That was definitely NOLA. I also enjoyed chatting with you and with the two Texas shoppers who were also very active on the forum back then. We consumed a lot of wine in NOLA!

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
There was some general talk a few years ago getting other shoppers to be your dining +1 companion. I live in the DC area and I'd be up for that sort of exchange! I think some posters also paired up for the USPS shops to send each other stuff, which I think is pretty cool.
I am also in the DC area and it definitely helps to have a trained guest. I have shopped a few times with the friend who introduced shopping to me. HotSauce, not sure where you are but I might be interested on occasion. I am in Northern VA.
