At 70 obits around the sun, am I being discriminating against me for my age

In 2021 I made $32,000 doing shops In 2022 I did $10,000. Now I can't get a simple route that has 6 shops with 3 hours drive time and 170 miles
The Senior Manager writes today,
"I appreciate your interest in working with us; however, I must mention that your request seems significantly higher than our current rates. In fact, it is double what we are currently paying, which is substantially more than what we paid for these locations during the previous wave.

If you could provide me with your lowest and best offer, I would be happy to review it and see if we can find a way to work together. Please let me know your thoughts on this matter."
My response,
This is the lowest price. There is 4 hour drive time and 170 miles to Columbus New Mexico. The other five shops are within 5 MI apart I think this is a very good deal because your six shops pay $ 90.00 total. The $100 is for the drive time and mileage.
Their response
"Understood. I was hoping we could work something out. "

I don't see how this has anything to do with age. It looked to me like they were purely concerned with the fee you requested.
@bmttinman I guess I am missing something since your post was edited. Why would you want to drive 6 hours or whatever it is to make $0.00 on the shops and get $100 for gas and your time? What am I missing?

I wouldn't worry about it. In time, the fee should increase or maybe there will be shops that are not as far away that you can make more on.

Like you, I've countered offered jobs and they told me no. I didn't sweat it other than to predict that no one is going to do it at their ridiculously low base. In one particular case, I laughed about it as I drove by the shop. Now they are begging shoppers to take it for $3 less than what I offered a couple of months ago. Maybe they realize it or not, but they have raised the fee over 250% since they released this cycle of jobs.

Yes, it is a business, but does it make sense to have shops go unfilled over a few bucks? MSCs and shoppers play a game of chicken to see who is going to blink first.

They should have taken your offer; I would have charged $120.
You are making a lot of assumptions, including the idea that you are the only shopper in the area. Maybe there is someone who isn't 100 miles away who does them cheaper. As the economy worsens, more people look for extra work and our competition increases. Bad for us, good for the companies.
I did not state the amount of the shop fee for fear of the editor. It was $15 for each shop.

You made an offer, they said they think they can get them done for less based on past fees, invited a new offer, you stood firm on your first offer, they declined.
And $100 isn't nearly enough to entice me to Columbus, NM! Not to offend, but armpit of the WORLD. Crazy with drugs, dangerous cartels, etc. (I believe the entire Sherrif's department was arrested a few years back for providing guns to the cartels! )
Just me personally, but I wouldn't jump at driving 300 miles to get paid $15 per shop, not even $30 per. The one exception would be if I was on a road trip already and those shops are along the way.

I'm speaking as one who lives in an area where I don't have to drive a lot of miles to begin with. But I understand this is not the case for everyone. For me, it takes a lot of incentive to consider driving 300 miles. If the MSC wants to get them done another way, so be it, that's business.
