Uber Alcohol

Anybody sign up for these? It seems like there's one normal scenario and then a handful of scenarios that would result in a $5 payment and no alcohol delivery!

I was lucky to get the normal scenario but I'm wondering how frustrating the others will me.

Most of the scenarios seemed like they could result in no order being delivered.
I saw those on the Job Board. There was one scenario where you had to act intoxicated and another scenario where you said you couldn't find your ID. I haven't signed up for any and didn't see any normal scenarios.
No order being delivered seems to be a recurring theme with Uber Eats. My son gets jobs that someone already picked up, but never delivered all the time. In fact, I was with him a couple weeks ago, they offered $35 to do a 3 mile trip. But when we got to the restaurant the order had been picked up over an hour earlier. Uber paid him $3.

I got lucky and got a normal scenario. If paying $20 for $6 worth of alcohol is lucky lol. I sent one to my SO to do and he somehow picked one of the awful scenarios. I have no idea why someone would want to do one of these shops for $5 and get no order.

Awful. I should have paid better attention here. I felt bad for the guy. He took my booze back to the store. Never again.
I did a normal scenario and even that was barely worth the effort after all the fees and markup Uber takes. Definitely not worth acting drunk... that's pretty ridiculous. And you don't even get a reimbursed drink after that much acting! Lol.
I saw the scenarios and decided not to take those shops. Way to waste everyone's time with low pay.

I live in UT. That will never happen here...

No kidding! I was doing some work in salt lake City and I went to the hotel bar to order a drink and the alcohol rules are very strange.

At the time I couldn't order food at the bar and I couldn't take my drink into the restaurant and I couldn't take my drink back to the room. Just strange but this probably 15 years ago.
I don't like the home delivery shops. You have to be sure to be home, they know where you live. I did a few Amazon delivery jobs but at least I could order what I wanted, and at the time there was not a delivery fee. Now I wouldn't do anything where I was out of pocket. The worst were the Ghost Kitchen deliveries from IHOP with horrible food!!

I totally agree!

They are offering $40 for these plus $20 reimbursement in my area. I would consider doing the lost ID one but I’m concerned it will reflect poorly on my Uber account. Or what if they gave me the alcohol - would the Uber person lose their job?

I was wondering the same thing. I was not about to let a senior citizen lose his job. Fortunately, he declined the order (which is what he was supposed to do). I had to help him figure out the app. Poor guy. Plus, he was not a native English speaker. He flipped his keyboard from Mandarin to English, and I helped him navigate the app.

Yes, possibly. I was on reddit and saw delivery drivers complaining about losing their jobs. They do have to take an alcohol delivery training to be able to do it but I can only imagine the frustration of getting the order trying to deliver and then having to return the items.

I'm not sure how else they can test the adherence but I don't want the newly laid off driver to know where I live or to be a party to them getting fired.
I actually had to laugh at the scenario where you act drunk (which should trigger Uber not to deliver) and for your time, effort and acting skills you earn $5. Its just preposterous.
Where are you located that they are just offering $5 pay? In Mass/RI it started as $10 pay and is now up to $40 (plus reimbursement)
It looks like they have re-set this UBER EATS assignment or have launched them in new markets with the base of $5 and $20 reimbursement.

@ebit123 I too saw them at $40 this past weekend, but my area is not listed anymore. I considered doing it, but when you take into account the cost of any decent size beverage, the location fee, delivery fee, and tip, you are dipping into the fee to cover it, unless you buy a pint of whiskey. The major drug stores were listed with the quickest estimated delivery times, but none of them were selling alcohol for some reason which makes me wonder, why list those locations on the app for that specific category?

I get that the MSC wants to pay as little as possible, but did they really see that many people jump on this for $5 back in August? Like others mentioned in this thread, for one scenario you have to act and then you don't even get the liquor delivered. I saw them hit $30 and $40 in the last 7 days.

Time does nothing to boost the fee on their pull the door handle late at night to see if the store is open. It is still at $6 and has been since the summer when they launched this. With all the emails they send out, you would think they would've increased the pay on this apparently simple task that needs to be done at a difficult time period. The thread on this or the guidelines made it sound like you could only do this in a small 15 minute window which eliminated a late night route for those that were inclined to take this on. The email gives the impression of a 5 hour window.
I did one of these when they were first posted, and I had my choice of scenarios. I took a hard pass on the one where I had to act drunk. I went with the "misplaced my license" shop on a day when I was working from home, so $5, and potentially a $20 reimbursement. I picked the cheapest qualifying booze I could find, and I was all in at $17.90.

The delivery person was an older guy - very nice - and he did the right thing and didn't give me the booze. I felt soooooo bad, because I knew he wasn't going to get paid. Sure enough, I checked the app later, and they'd reversed the entire charge, including his tip.

I emailed the scheduler and asked if the drivers who did the right thing received any type of compensation for this. He said, "Yeah, they get paid." That must be the $3 a previous poster was referring to.

I don't know if it was a mistake on the MSC's part or not (I'm assuming it was), but they paid me the $17.90 as well as the $5. I'd give him the money if I knew how to find the delivery guy. I doubt he was Ubering just for the fun of it.

If your path dictates you walk through hell, do it as though you own the place. -unknown
I actually did one of these. My scenario was delivery to a college dorm sidewalk! I emailed my scheduler to clarify because I looked ahead and the app wouldn’t allow me to have a delivery to the sidewalk. He assured me that I should go ahead with the shop and that’s what the company was looking for. So I did the order and put in the notes that I will be standing outside next to a sidewalk so that sufficed the requirements of the shop instead of just leaving the order on the sidewalk. It was pretty weird because at the time I did the shop there was no one out and it felt creepy to have a driver deliver to me while standing outside but it was a successful shop. I got my bottle of wine and the shop paid $50.
I accepted one...originally in Presto it says specifically 21 and older. Problem is the Sassie page is HORRIBLY SCREAMING AT YOU in multiple font/size/color...and there it has a cutoff of 50. I used the "Help" feature and explained the fact the lead in was 21+ without a cutoff.

Joe S...sent me a snarky response opening with "It most certainly does..."

Opportunity sought elsewhere.
I did one in my area it was $55 plus 20 reimbursement. I had to have it delivered at a public place like a park.
Just a heads up.
I did my delivery (refused to deliver and refunded) on 10/21/23.
I just saw that I got my credit card refund on 2/15/24.
Never again. I hadn't even noticed that it was not refunded immediately.
