Heads Up! A New E/M Requirement!

I was rather surprised in doing some E/M shops recently.

For those shops that include a separate diesel canopy inspection, there is now a photo requirement of a screen/keyboard shot of the/a diesel pump. For me, I usually take a few shots of the diesel pumps anyway.
But, when I did the sites earlier this year requiring the separate diesel canopy inspection, that requirement was not there. I know this because I keep all of my photos from those shops until I do them again. No photo of the offending pump.
Unless I missed out on an update, this appears the MSC just went ahead and added the requirement, assuming (I suppose) that the shopper files the report onsite and would then discover the requirement.

Sigh...MSC, just put in your requirements what you want and I'll endeavor to do them.

Oh, and BTW, MSC (same one), you need to advise your editors that no way in H@!! would any shopper be able to capture a screenshot when the receipt doesn't print - it only is up for a few seconds.
Zut alors!

I saw this requirement the other day doing some. The first ones I did that day didn't require it. Then, the last part of the day, it came up. I am guessing they added it in the middle of the day while I was doing them, or some require it and some don't.

As far as I know the required picture for that is a separate picture of the receipt you had to get inside that says "duplicate" or "reprint" on it. I have never seen a requirement for getting a picture of the screen saying that the receipt didn't print, because it doesn't always happen. Sometimes the pump sounds like it's going to print and it doesn't.
Per the project manager, they are no longer accepting another photo of the receipt if the receipt doesn't print at the pump. A shop was returned to me and I asked questions. There have been a couple of times I have been able to catch "clerk has receipt", but they don't expect that. Especially when there are times when nothing prints and nothing shows on the screen. When it just doesn't print I take a closer photo of the pump and submit that and had no problems. I was told the important thing is to make sure you get the pump number.

Not any more.
Are you saying that we won't get paid for the gas we pump at the pump if the receipt doesn't print at the pump? We can't submit a receipt that is a duplicate or reprint to get paid?

How is that legal? Almost every gas station I audit/shop doesn't offer a receipt at the pump. 9/10 times I have to go inside and get a duplicate.

They added the keypad requirement last month with no warning. I learned the hard way, and lost a shop. Fortunately, I passed by the station again on another route and was able to redo it, with the fee $10 higher.

As far as catching a photo of the screen, they have been requiring that for a while on most of the clients. I have learned to have my camera ready. Sometimes I miss it, but take the photo anyway, and they still accept it. Sometimes if I was just daydreaming and it was completely my fault I will buy two cents more of gas and catch it the second time., A photo of the pump usually works too.
The yellow brand wanted the duplicate receipt. Not sure if the new form still does, The others want a picture of the error screen when they ask if the receipt printed. You will still need the duplicate receipt from inside and get reimbursed, you just need the screen too.
This is straight from the email I received when I asked about the "new" requirement. "please submit a photo of either the ICR screen or fuel pump you used and receipt did not print."
There will be times when there is no message on the screen because it just didn't print. If I'm able to catch the message on the screen I submit that, if not I submit a photo of the pump. All of them (done at least 30 since I found out about this) have been accepted and none sent back for a different photo.
For the shell shops, they are instructive - a photo of the receipt that may or may not say "reprint". For the P66 shops, the editor wants a shot of the screen where it says "see cashier'. For me, that particular screen lasts about 3 seconds and then is gone. For E/m I just remember seeing the photo of the offending pump required in the report. However, I have been asked for a screen shot of the pump. Seems that the editor might have been confused as to which brand requires it.
Better yet, the screen says, "take receipt" but nothing came out. So do they want a picture of the screen or empty slot or both- where you can't read the screen because of distance or glare? How do they know I didn't snatch the receipt before taking the photo? They're trusting my word? Doubtful. In that case I just take the overall pump photo (twice) which seems to work but could change at any moment with anyone's new interpretations of the instructions.
This!
It's turned into a guessing game of 'will I get paid' depending on who you draw as an editor. I've been doing this a while, and while I've had a shop or two rejected as I missed something (because sometimes I'm human) I could count them on one hand. I've had more issues with the editors for this MSC lately than all my shopping years combined.

With E/M I had been sending a 2nd photo of the gas receipt circling "duplicate receipt" but the last one was rejected saying a photo of the screen is needed. Fortunately I've made a habit of taking a photo of the bezel area, just in case, on the pump used after taking the required overall pic. That apparently keeps the editors happy, although I think it is a ridiculous request. But what do I know. As long as I get paid I'll play their game.

The photo of the screen is not a new requirement. When I started back doing these over a year ago, I saw something that directed me to take shot of the ICR screen which is why I started doing it.

When there is no message and the receipt paper does not print, which happens when it is jammed, I take a photo of the empty receipt dispenser.

I have never had a gas station shop rejected on this issue.

If you are referring to the E/M gas stations, I've reviewed their guidelines back to 2019 and cannot find evidence of a screen photo requirement. AAMOF, the old MSC was specific in how to respond:

From July 2022 Guidelines:
Compliance Requires:
• A receipt should print at the pump you fuel at and it should be legible.
• If at all possible, you should pay for your fuel purchase at the pump.
• When making your fuel purchase, ensure you select to print a receipt if
prompted.
• If you are at a full-service location, the receipt should be available upon request.
Please indicate to the attendant: “Can I get $5 in gas, and I’ll need a
receipt please.”
• If you notice any pumps have signs that indicate they are working, but the
receipts won’t print, please take note as this is not-compliant.
• If the card is declined, or you receive any of the below messages, please try a
second card, provided you have one. If this still does not work, please mark as
“None of the above applied (no issues identified on this standard) as it could be
something with the bank or card itself.
-“Sale declined – pay inside” this message will be followed by “Please
see cashier” or “Please see employee”
“Please see cashier”
• “Error code NK” this message will be followed by “Please see cashier”
• You may use the EM Rewards+ app for fuel payment at the pump (however
do not use more than once per week).
• A fully “Out of Order” pump or “Diesel Only” pump should be ignored here.
AT THE PUMP OBSERVATIONS

K - Full Serve site, but was not provided a receipt upon request
L - Receipt did not print - Other

There is different blue gas (whose sister brand is red) which has had the display screen message photo requirement (when no receipt prints) for about the same amount of years that it has had the one-gallon timing rule. Also an aqua-ish brand started requiring this pic sometime in 2023. Possibly the big body of water gas, too, but that one now requires using an app that, no matter how many hours I spend trying to make it work, rarely functions so it's been a while since I've done one.
yes, when it says receipt printed and then nothing comes out. Those are the hard ones to capture because the thank you message is only up for a few seconds and I'm usually spacing out with my camera in hand.
Just did another site inspection for the E/M gas station.
I can report that, currently, for the E/M shops, according to the online report, only a photo of the offending pump is required when the receipt does not print.
No screen shot, no receipt, just the pump photo.
IMO, the editor(s) who want a screen shot are confused as to which brand they are editing.

Also, IMO, when the shopper is fueling, taking a photo of the screen would more than likely give them away as a probable mystery shopper (prior to the reveal).
I know, I know, the shopper could claim they were taking the photo to prove to the employee as to what the pump screen said (as if they employee really would question it). I have seen the vid cameras inside on every pump - its a dead giveaway if they saw you.
