The photo of the screen is not a new requirement. When I started back doing these over a year ago, I saw something that directed me to take shot of the ICR screen which is why I started doing it.
When there is no message and the receipt paper does not print, which happens when it is jammed, I take a photo of the empty receipt dispenser.
I have never had a gas station shop rejected on this issue.
If you are referring to the E/M gas stations, I've reviewed their guidelines back to 2019 and cannot find evidence of a screen photo requirement. AAMOF, the old MSC was specific in how to respond:

Compliance Requires:
• A receipt should print at the pump you fuel at and it should be legible.
• If at all possible, you should pay for your fuel purchase at the pump.
• When making your fuel purchase, ensure you select to print a receipt if
prompted.
• If you are at a full-service location, the receipt should be available upon request.
Please indicate to the attendant: “Can I get $5 in gas, and I’ll need a
receipt please.”
• If you notice any pumps have signs that indicate they are working, but the
receipts won’t print, please take note as this is not-compliant.
• If the card is declined, or you receive any of the below messages, please try a
second card, provided you have one. If this still does not work, please mark as
“None of the above applied (no issues identified on this standard) as it could be
something with the bank or card itself.
-“Sale declined – pay inside” this message will be followed by “Please
see cashier” or “Please see employee”
“Please see cashier”
• “Error code NK” this message will be followed by “Please see cashier”
• You may use the EM Rewards+ app for fuel payment at the pump (however

Pay close attention to the list provided to account for “NA” options:
A - Prepaid inside –No option to pay at the pumps – NA
B - Prepaid inside – Card reader at dispenser fueled at was not operational (other pumps have no
visual signs of malfunction) - NA
C - Receipt did not print – missed receipt prompt (own fault – all pumps have no visual indication that
receipt would not print) – NA
D - Paid with EM Rewards+ app (digital receipt only requested) – NA (NEW!)
E - Paid with EM Rewards+ app, requested printed receipt but it did not print at the pump (NEW!)
F - Prepaid inside – Card reader at dispenser was not operational (At least 1 other pump had visual
indications that receipt would not print)
G - Receipt did not print – missed receipt prompt (own fault – but, at least 1 other pump had visual
indication that receipt would not print)
H - Paid at the pump, but receipt did not print (no message at the pump)

Edited to add - I keep all my information regarding the MSC's instructions, etc for at least 5 years on my computer.
