Do you apply for shops or self-assign?

I've been a shopper for over 20 years, so am allowed to self-assign shops on most company websites. Recently I have applied for several jobs that don't allow self-assigning and it isn't worth the trouble. I applied for two restaurant shops and waited for several days while the status was "pending". During this wait time, I missed out on other shops because I was holding the date open. After a couple of days, I went back to the site and deleted the application. One that I recently applied for on Gigspot has no link to cancel, so I guess I will just keep waiting and losing out on other shops. Do you apply for shops? Is it worth the time?

Gigspot is so hard to navigate for no reason. There's usually nothing of importance there for me to wait on. I will however, wait on Coyle shops that I deem worthy of missing other stuff for, but I also have the option to cancel on Coyle. I HATE waiting. Patience is not MY virtue.
I used to apply for most shops, planning routes weeks ahead. But with MSCs changing their focus to mobile with quick turnarounds, that is no longer a viable option in most cases. So now I do almost all self assign, and just play the waiting game, taking whatever is left when the fee gets high enough.
I self-assign with a few exceptions. I will apply for shops when I know it is a shop I will get and I know it will be assigned within a day or two. Generally, I have no issues with applications for RGB and Pinnacle, and maybe Bare. I do not pass on guaranteed money. That does not make any sense. So, I'll go delete the application if need be.

As for Gigspot, if I were you I would ditch it and sign up with each company individually. You'll see jobs that do not go to the app.
I do both. I'd rather self-assign, but sometimes I have to apply.

Shopping Arkansas, Louisiana, & Mississippi.
I've done shops that were self-assign and then in the next round posted as apply. I wonder who makes that decision and why?
Isn't this kind of a moot question? Limiting yourself to only self-assign or apply shops greatly diminishes what you have to choose from. I guess I can see why somebody would avoid apply shops, but why would you refuse to do a shop that was self-assign? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless it was the platform you were trying to avoid (Presto, Gigspot, etc.).

If your path dictates you walk through hell, do it as though you own the place. -unknown
I rarely apply for shops, mostly I self-assign. I decided to apply for a car wash shop last week that hadn’t been filled because I was going to be in the area. I waited all day in “pending” status with it eventually being dropped (presumably filled). I probably won’t apply anymore. It’s not worth the wait for me.
