Scanning items at 6 cents a scan. How long to do 100 items, for $6

I see shops for scanning grocery store items, paying 6 cent per scan. How long does it take to scan 100 items? (That's $6)

Depends on which type of shop it is. It could be hours. It really depends on how much information and pictures are required for each item.

scanning 1 of every item at a particular store in the isle. From there when done scanning you will take a clear photo of each shelf that was scanned so the client can view the items scanned and be able to zoom in on prices.
I haven't done any of these type of shops. Unrelated, but this brings back a horrible memory from an online shop I did for Trend Source. It required screenshots of all the items and prices on a website during COVID. It had to be done through a mobile phone. I think it took me 3.5 hours. After I submitted the report, the scheduler said there was an update to the website, and I had to re-do parts of it. An additional 30 minutes I think.

I want to say it paid $125, but it was not worth it to me. It only went by quicker because after some time, I found a more efficient way to get the pictures dropped and uploaded. I remember getting a headache and wanting to take a nap after.
The reason I was one and done and will never do price check/scanning shops is an issue that no one has mentioned. The time required to complete the shop is more dependent upon how long it takes to find each item than upon the few seconds it takes to record the item.

They generally want you to do the whole store. There are plenty of threads on this one. Look or Warehouse scanning. Definitely not worth it for me anyway. Tried it once said never again.
Hello- I scanned 3000 items in 12 hours you are scanning the UPC and taking photos. Super easy and this goes by very quickly. Email me if you are intersted. 3 schedulers all scan on the side. vhorton@bareinternational.com
It depends on the section and what you are looking and also if you did this weekly you would know where everything is. 458 items takes 4 hours and pays 110.00 but I did not start out that fast.
Standing for 4 hours scanning items and that gets you $110? That sounds truly horrific. You can make $110 easily so many other ways. Do 3 gas station shops, 1 lunch shop, 1 grocery or retail shop and head home 2 hours later. (with your gas, a meal and maybe a few groceries on top of your earnings - and most importantly without a back ache). Glad these work for you, though!
Not everyone has all the shop opportunities in there area. Some people may prefer to be in doors and not only that you can come and go as you please. There is all sorts of money to be made and not every shop is for every shoppers.
We have ours broken up into sections so one is doign the whole store by themselves. However the faster the scanner the more money you make i have a girl scanning 150 plus items an hour and makes a nice chunk of change
I am so glad that there are shoppers who love doing the shops that I find not worth the time and effort.

Right! You are spot on there are so many other ways to make more for less effort.
If I wanted to spend 4 hours working I'd pick up 5 Servimer valet parking shops. I'd spend 40 minutes at each relaxing in a posh hotel lobby or maybe even at a nearby beach... or possibly picking up random nearby shops to make even more $$$$$ I'd make more than $110 just from the parking shops.

I would rather do the car was and storage shops. No standing on my feet for 4 hours.
Virginia - these scanning shops are showing up under the "Web & Phone Shops - Click bar to access assignments that do not require physical visit" section of Bare's job board. Just thought you should know, as the description says the scans are done in the store. So being listed as "an assignment that does not require a physical visit" might lead to some confusion!

I mean we all know the 80/20 rules right....Obviously this 6t cents scanning isn't going to be any of those 20%...However a job is a job, when things are slow and this could be a viable option. Having this option is better than staying home with no income.

It shows how little the company thinks of mystery shoppers.
John, I can finally say that I agree wholeheartedly with something you have posted!

I am reminded of the observation that a broken clock is correct twice a day. Why this reminds me of that aphorism will remain unstated.

Huh?
3000 x $0.06 each. 12 hours. $15 an hour?

Oh my goodness. I guess it depends on where you live, your ability to work, your education, etc?
These were one and done. Spent over 3 hours and the way the products came up in the app did not match even aisles next to each other. Walk from produce, then dairy, then chips which is close to produce, (back tracking here ) then kids pops which are not on an aisle but on an end aisle....yada yada yada.
150 X .06 = $9/hour. What part of the country is this a nice chunk of change? Im asking in all seriousness.

Place where min wage is 16/hr, and 20 for flipping burgers

This scheduler does not live in CA.

People here argue all day long online about how much to pay a babysitter. The answer is $20 an hour for one child, more for 2 or more. Yep. CA is insane.

This scheduler may not be living in CA, but they have 6cents per scan listing in CA, that's for sure.

I see them. I haven’t been into a cvs or Walgreens since looting became a thing in the Bay Area. Same goes for Wal Mart. No thanks. The clerks definitely won’t call the cops on you up here. Response time can be hours if they even show up.

I don’t know who is doing these? People who are unemployable?
I would like to do this because it is fun to figure out the efficiency tips and hints. I cannot do this any more because my back will not withstand it. There is a gig out there for me, somewhere...

Bach is not noise, Madam. (Robert, in Two's Company)
I used to do these a few years ago, before Covid. It was for a different MSC, it was at the big-box membership retailer where no one said anything about me spending hours there, and it paid 18-20 cents per item. No way I would do it for 6 cents.

OMG, a nice chunk of change? $9 an hour. And since you use her as an example she must be your high earner. Just wow....
I answered an AARP ad for employment and found out in Texas min wage is still 7.25 which they were obliged to pay. Still cant believe I lasted 2 months of getting yelled at all the time because we were required to be sanding the whole time. It could be worse.
