Sonic - Groovy?

I've never been a fan of crinkle cut fries.. mostly because they aren't actually cut potatoes but mashed potatoes put through an extruder. But the "groovy" fries are FAR better than those awful rubber things they used to sell, and it's a real nice change from tots.

I don't really care for the new fries. They are all crust with no potato. But I will admit the old fries could get rubbery if you didn't get them fresh and eat them right away.

Fast food companies have been investing a lot of money into developing fries that stay fresh long enough for delivery. I guess this is Sonic's entry, and not a bad one when viewed from that perspective.
I am not sure why you think crinkle-cut fries are extruded. they certainly don't have to be. They can be made by quarter-turning the potato before each pass over the corrugated blade. I have made them at home. I have bought crinkle-cut frozen fries for decades and they are not extruded. That does not mean that they can't be extruded, but I don't think the ones at Sonic (or Arby's, for that matter) are. I prefer crinkle-cut fries since they have more surface area than straight fries.

Sure, remember all those late night (and now anytime of the day) commercials with the kitchen gadgets that "cuts and juliennes fries", they had a blade that cut potatoes into crinkle fries. The Groovy Fries definitely taste like the crinkle cut fries made from a whole potato. I prefer the crinkle cut as well, as they have a bit of a crunch on the outside. If I still wanted regular cut fries I can get them at practically every other fast food restaurant.
I have noticed them. I've always gotten tots until they came out with the new fries. Now I get the fries. They are delicious to me.

Shopping Arkansas, Louisiana, & Mississippi.
From Sonic:

"Introducing new Groovy Fries! Hot, crispy, and designed with grooves for dipping in our new Groovy Sauce. For a limited time, grab $1 any size Groovy Fries! Order online, in the app or head to the drive-in to grab this groovy offer.*
I don't know, but their burgers are absolutely disgusting. I recently did another Sonic shop since I was staying right by it. I couldn't even get my small children to eat it. They know it is awful without me saying it.
Possibly the worst thing about Sonic is their inconsistency from location to location and often from the same location at different times. I never know if I am going to get perfect fries, burnt fries, soggy fries, hot fries, cold fries, or the same issues with tater tots. Service is equally inconsistent. I only shop the Sonics that do not require a restroom visit. Asking for a restroom at a drive-in restaurant is something only a mystery shopper would do.
You do not have to "ask" for the restroom. You simply check one restroom on your own, if available, when conducting a "dine-in" or "drive-in stall" type of shop.
I don't ask for access to restrooms. If the restroom is locked then there is no restroom available to customers. It really is that simple.

I'm old and I'm mean and if I have to ask to use an available restroom it will be the LAST time I spend my money there in my real life.
Right. Ask a carhop for a key, if you can find one passing by, who has to ask a manager when both are already busy doing EVERYTHING else. Yeah, no.
And there is nothing about the new fries that even remotely resembles an actual potato product. Taste, texture, smell, that abundance of air inside each stick. Nope, not a potato. The salt's good, though.
