Since Kroger has invested so much here recently, I doubt there will be any closures here. They just got done building two new marketplace stores in Northern AL. And since I've been here they have added 4 stores and closed one that was seriously underperforming.

In my area they just closed an older store which they replaced with a large super store. a block or so away. I can only think of one store in my area which is a bit run down and perhaps one that would be closed. other than that, all stores look pretty good for remaining open. I do note a big increase in TV ads around here. Also when I Make a purchase and do the survey to earn fuel points I note additional questions as to what would make Kroger my preferred store. So, seems they are working on trying to improve.

A list of 29 stores to close. as early as next month, was just released by the union. Of that number, 13 were Kroger properties operating under another name.

I read an article that Kroger posted a loss for the first quarter this year. Seems to match up with the pause in the mystery shopping jobs. Plus, I've been hearing the employees talk about a vote for a new contract. Mystery shopping reviews are not favored by many working there.

I'm a labor supporter (I previously worked both for a union and belonged to a union), but it seems to me that whether or not the company gets mystery shopped should be WAY down on the list of priorities for what the employees want out of a new contract. Especially because since they *are* unionized, they're highly unlikely to lose their job due to a poor mystery shopping report.
