Exxon sticker removal

Any hints where I can find these? Thank you! smiling smiley

It makes me wonder who was in charge of placing those stickers on the pumps. I never saw that job type posted and assumed it was the station employees that affixed them, like when they change POP stuff.

Correct. It was the stations responsibility to put the stickers on. The stickers are unique to each station. They are used for payment and contain payment information unique to that station.... name, address and so forth. So, not anybody can obtain them and put them on, but obviously if the program is ending, anyone can take them off,
I looked at the original guidelines that I first printed and there is nothing about the white circles. Wish I could post a pic. I found one I could take and looked at the guidelines and it now says to remove the stickers. My mother does these show too and she actually asked specifically about the white stickers when submitting a shop and got no response.
I just think common sense would indicate that the white circles are a part of the sticker and should be removed. I can't imagine that they would want them to remain. But, if yours were approved, good for you. Going forward, you might rethink it.

Those stickers had their own rfid that would activate the phone's payment app. Now that more upgraded pumps have that universal chip receptor that accepts mobile payments, the stickers are basically obsolete now and unnecessary space taken over on the pump that could now be used for other ads or pump interruptors.

I agree about the higher percentage alcohol.
For whatever reason, the privately owned stations seem to be more trouble.
I think that when the stickers were first added, the method was to use a separate, better glue than the sticker's glue to apply the white dot. Then they would apply the sticker to the white dot, ensuring a good application. That method seems to make the glue under the white sticker thicker and harder to remove.

After doing some of these, I figured out that the best time to do these is in the middle of the day. The pumps are warmer and that makes the sticker warm and supple. The sticker is then easier to remove and the glue is more pliable.
Ensure you use a plastic putty knife/scraper, not metal of razor. Scratches cane result!
Use alcohol.
First, use your plastic putty knife to remove the sticker and the white dot beneath it.
Next, use the putty knife to scape as much as the white sticker glue away.
Last, I use an old wash soaked with a bit of alcohol wrapped onto the putty knife to rub off the excess glue.
That seemed to work for me and I got my timing down considerably
I've completed four shops. Two had no stickers whatsoever. Another shop had many stickers and circles, and I removed them with little effort. The final shop only had circle residue. Since there were no stickers present, I only took one pic for each pump, and the shop was approved

Some shops I've scoped out for the next few days have only the circles. I'm sure they don't want them there, but if I can't toggle on App Clip or GPay being present, there's no option for an after photo.

No matter how you slice the pie (I use Goo Gone and a metal putty knife) It can be time consuming with any station over 4 pumps. I did one with 8 (only because it was "sandwiched" between two 4 pump stations) It took over 40 minutes ! Exxon is still under paying for this project. I know everyone needs to earn money. But, if you are doing any station over 8 pumps for the small fee, you are under selling yourself and basically everyone else. I find it funny, someone took (6) 12 pump stations right away, with (2) 16, (2) 18 and (1) 24. They all came back on the board ! smiling smiley smiling smiley smiling smiley The fee needs to be doubled and tripled for larger stations. It is bad enough with all the pump pictures and the diesel stuff and even more pictures (The pump pictures are like an old school Exxon shop, except taking them twice !) NO FUEL to get you to these stations ! I mapped out 10 stations, $160 in fees, looks good. But, in my area, the round trip is over 150 miles for them. Wear and tear on the car, traffic and you are paying out of pocket for fuel. All gas station site inspections here, are already done ! No double dipping (which would be very nice and pay for the drive). Why oh why, didn't they release these in the beginning of the month ???
Also, only 2 days to complete ! 3 or even 5 days would make it much easier to route ! One last thing... It is so HOT and HUMID on the east coast ! UGH ! There are no pool's on site ! smiling smiley smiling smiley smiling smiley

Conversely, the sticker jobs (may) have all been assigned or competed here. However, the site experience jobs are all still up for grabs.

Yesterday I did a 12-pump station in which every pump had both stickers and the circles. Took me about 50 mins, but I was getting faster at it as I went along. Maybe my type of cloth isn't the best for doing this. Using a few paper towels quickened the removal of residue.

Concur with claabe on $16 not being a particularly good fee at anything above eight pumps, assuming you have to remove stickers at all the pumps However, I live in a suburban sprawl area with many locations relatively close together, and I've had really good luck so far.

Did three shops this AM. Two had no stickers, including a 16-pump station I just wrapped up. The other store had only a few GPay stickers. And the first two shops are in a city which doesn't allow signs on the road, so one less picture to take.

I've been really fortunate to find easy locations to do. Hope you all can find similar stations.

I signed up for five more locations, and was looking for another one closer to where I was when all the locations dropped off the site. And two of the shops I claimed are no longer on my list of claimed shops. Fortunately they took the two most time-consuming ones away.

Site experience locations still available.

I hate it when all of the tasks drop off all of a sudden. You plan for a route to make the drive worth it and then POP, all gone from the entire region.

I know it can't be that suddenly everyone grabbed them. Either there's a limit/quota to how many you can do in a given time or there's a glitch in Presto. I know in the Sassie system they tell you you can only do so many in a given time, but the fact that its suppressed in Presto is super annoying. How can we plan to do the work for you in the best way when these things happen?

When I do the Panda Express shops from the Sassie-powered Ipsos site, each shop tells you how many you can do and if you've done the limit, the calendar goes blank where you can't select a shop date to schedule. Much better than a surprise disappearance of pins from the map.

Agreed. I'm cool with them limiting how many I can do. Just be upfront about it. An\d why let me claim shops if they're gonna be removed due to some limit? Good thing I didn't immediately drive out in the direction of the two shops they removed from my list of claimed shops.

It's like fishing to me. I cast (set my location, zoom in, zoom out). Jiggle my bait (hold-click, drag, release). Repeat.

BAM! I got a bite. Set the hook quickly and reel it in.

It looks like all of my tasks I did over the weekend are getting approved & paid now (July 16 into 17). Some were paid for today and the rest I'm sure will get reviewed/paid by Monday the 21st now.

Seems like my method works.
1. If the pump has no stickers from the get-go, just take a clear picture of the whole pump from top to bottom. Some will have number on the upper-right and others won't. No need to worry about that. Just a unique picture of each pump.
2. If the pump does have stickers, I take a phot of that section (not the full pump) for the before and after and submit those. No need to do a full pump for that part.
3. I remove all sticker residue after peeling. A few sprays, scrapes and wipes does the trick. Sometimes there can be a ring of dirt or sunbaked color difference once the sticker is off showing a faint border. Just clean it up as best you can and it'll work.

As for timing. I agree there can be a question about $16 per location. I think everyone's method of looking at a street-view map of the station beforehand can help you assess if the time is worth it or not. The biggest station I did with all-stickers was only 6 pumps (12 positions) and I nailed that down in about 25 min.
Booked some.

First one was in a rainstorm, and after trying to remove a single sticker I bailed on the entire batch.

Should have hung on and checked each location and done the ones with no stickers, but all the other questions were PITA so no big thing.

.

This is exactly what I did. I thought the first few shops which I did on Saturday were approved, but I read the email subjects incorrectly (they were submission verification emails). I've done nine shops total, two on Saturday and a few each day Monday through today, no word back yet on any of them.

I used a Quinn scraper with plastic razor which I purchased at Harbor Freight for $8.99, and a bottle of 91% rubbing alcohol from Target. You can get a scraper for less money than than what I paid, but I figured spending a few dollars more for something which seemed much more comfortable to handle was worth it. I think the cloth I used from home is microfiber, perhaps not the best for picking up all the residue. It's managed to do the job, though.

Still have a sturdy plastic scraper that was provided for a years-ago gig. Its handle fits my medium sized hand. It would be useful for this job, if I were doing the work.

Maybe that's what living is-- recognizing the marvels and oddities around you. (S. K. Ali)
They have all disappeared from my map. The ones left were all 12 + pumpers that I wasn't interested in doing anyway, but I wonder if they're re-doing something. I doubt someone picked them all up. They were spread all around..Ruts O Ruk if they did that.

Updated guidelines, dated 7/17/25:

If pump only has white circle(s), must take a before picture, remove circle(s), and take after photo.

I find this out after I pull up my report to do my last location - a 16-pump station with only white circles at every pump except one. And thinking I wouldn't have to remove them based on previous guidelines when I accepted the shop (I previously scouted the location), only gave myself the last hour and 23 minutes remaining in job window to complete it. I got it done with about 10 minutes to spare

They're back in my area. I didn't check the guidelines, but I don't plan on doing any of them this week anyway. I bet they're sending people back to get those white circles removed from the ones that left them on.

They're back in my area, too. Picked up eight shops after Googling them and seeing none of them are 16-pump stations.

Still haven't received word on any of the previous surveys I submitted. They state it may take up to 10 days for approval, so they're not behind in approving them.

Thank you guys for all of the valuable tips! Now I know why it's called, "Rubbing alcohol." And I never knew it was available in various proofs. Worked way better than Goo Gone, which was actually pretty useless. Paper towels at gas stations are hard to find here so I went armed with cloth rag towels. Either way, after having done a few, I was covered in sticky balls. The towels, my clothes, the phone, hands, arms, the car. It was everywhere.

So the next question for the pros is: Can I launder the clothes and towels to get that stuff out or will it just transfer to other things in the same load? Thanks again!
Been reading the mixed bag of experiences.

There are still quite a few out there in my region. Interestingly, those that also have Site Experience shops have those shops in bonus while the sticker removals remain at $16.

As I'm currently out of town, and my car will still be in the shop for at least a couple of more days after I get home, I'm forced to sit back and wait to see if the bonus situation changes for the better.

Did I hear, sticky balls? To fix the root cause, one may be enticed to use baby powder, but a specialized lotion may do wonders.

Good question. My cloth is pretty much all grey and blue after 23 shops (though not all required any sticker removal), and kinda figured I should just trash it pretty soon.

I used cotton balls since I have a ton of them. No sticky balls, but don't get a fresh manicure before doing these, because it will ruin it...believe me, I know.

Here, all of the Site Experience gone now. Maybe it reached a quota, and some will reappear later. $18 seemed to be the magic number. sad smiley
