Seasonal Hiatus

Darkness and dropping temperatures retire me from MS for the season. I have two great retail shops scheduled for Friday on my way home and I think I am done until Spring arrives. How about you?

The darkness and cold def affect my mood to go out and do jobs but I don't retire for the season. I might slow down a little but overall, I keep it moving along the best I can.
Love the four seasons! Pros and cons to each. Just like everything else in life's journey.
hello Darkness my old friend...I've come to talk with you again
I keep it moving. I only do not like icy conditions or heavy rain.

I'm not a fan of freezing temps... but we get precious little of that, just a week or so in January and a few random cold snaps over the rest of the winter. I hybernate in the beginning of January anyway, it's my birthday and I don't drive on frozen roads. But other than that, I'd much rather shop in the cold than the heat. And I don't mind the dark so much as long as no one is shining bright LED lights in my eyes. I'm going to have to get some polarized lenses for driving at night sooner rather than later though, sometimes when I'm driving I can't see anything except the lights. I can't tell where the lines on the road are or the center median, especially when there aren't any curbs. getting old ain't for sissies.
Since, I only shop when I'm doing my personal driving, the season has minimal effect on my shops.
I still have household needs, and appointments. Getting old seems to come with that! I still visit friends and family. I ski. When I'm going somewhere anyway, I check a couple of job boards.

Double thumbs up for, "I ski" smiling smiley
Don’t leave us alone in the dark. We need the diversion of hearing about what you’re doing and what you’re cooking. Hint, hint.

yes, please check in....
I will be on hiatus too after the new year.....will be tied up for a while on planes, trains and automobiles.
Will maybe check where I am at to see if anything is available.
I feel like I basically took a season off already this year after my dad passed away, so I'm ok with going out in the winter, but night driving (which is after 4:30 PM now) sucks as I get older.
@HBD You made me smile laugh. I like that S and G song.

@Prince I have no choice re: being out in darkness and cold but choose not to perform in person shops even if I am there. The ones I will consider are lucrative but so rare and far and few in between. There are always so many fragrance and cosmetic shops offered near my job. They're paying a $10 fee. No thank you forever. Many retail jobs paying $50 but I don't want to complete a redundant, crazy 120 question survey with repetitive questions and redundant narrative requests. Been there, done that. Hello online financial shops, LOL. Happy trails to you!

Will miss my fine dining shops. That's OK. We'll pay with no report to follow.

I generally enjoy a 2 to 3 week break beginning about December 17th.

I feel you MLZ…

Those lights used to be illegal in most states for that exact reason. They caused accidents.

Now all the cars seem to have them.

The cover by Disturbed has resurrected it at a point time in a form that renders it…timeless.

We are hosting this year so I’ll definitely be on hiatus over Turkey Day/Black Friday weekend and for the 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year’s.

We don’t have snow, but lots of LED’s, ridiculously heavy commuter and holiday traffic, and absolutely terrible drivers year round, with even more insanity if there’s any moisture on the roads.

Not worth my life and my wheels to leave the house for anything less than $50. I’ll be doing more research, grant writing, and creative endeavors.
SBP

I know it isn't enforced, and there doesn't seem to be a penalty for selling the nasty things, but in most states, especially CA, it is illegal to modify your vehicle's lighting system. You can add fog lamps on cars that aren't equipped, and you can add off-road lamps on the roof, but you absolutely cannot use them on a highway. All other lamps must, by law, remain the same as they were from the factory.

The only place I have ever seen this enforced is in AZ, in the greater Phoenix area, and most of the state of CA. It most certainly is NOT enforced here in AL or MO (as I recently found out).

I don't know of any manufacturers that are equiping vehicles with LED lamps from the factory, but I also have not tried to keep up since I quit working on cars for a living.
They’re likely mods, MLZ along with the window darkening and nitro tanks, also illegal. Many in CA seem to like spending cash on flash.

Enforcement is often about revenue: easy money to write a lot of tickets to those who pull over right away, than chase someone you can’t catch up with and risk fleet damage and bodily injury for more costly prosecution.
There seemed to be a bit of hiatus activity during the Holidays and darkest part if winter with the MSC’s as well.
What’s the consensus here?
I don't know SBP, it seems slower, but I'm also slower, so it might just be me? I get some of my best bonus' the last couple weeks of December. We're having our first mini-freeze for the next couple of days, but it's not going to be bad and there doesn't seem to be any precipitation with it, so I'm not rescheduling anything unless my car is frozen to my mud..
HA! LOL! Actually not. High winds on Friday. I blew to work in the AM and had to hang on to car handles on the way to the commuter station. Blew back home and everything was still flying. Great look for your hair when you are having a night out somewhere. I hope you all have a great season!
I limit myself more in winter for a few reasons. First, I feel like opportunities dwindle in December. #2 the weather can be so dicey. I just had a shop last night, and there was a snow warning that stressed me out. #3 I do a lot of air travel to shops and again can't afford bad weather delays. With the government shut down, I am pausing, because I almost didn't get back home on Wednesday.
Please be safe everyone.
Our well being is worth far more than a few dollars.
nolimitem, yes be careful. I imagine that shops requiring air travel must involve much larger $ dollar amounts than the burger and gas station runs we often discuss here....

take care, the skies are not as friendly as they once were.
I put up so much money ($2500) on my trip last week. My report was late because I almost didn’t make it out of Miami, had to fly to Chicago which is 3 hours from my home. I was pacing in the airport unable to focus. Came home and had to go straight to work, but was supposed to get home the night before. It just isn’t worth that much stress right now. It’s way too dicey.
I'm in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area, so we're entering the nicest part of the year. Hoping for more gas station audits to pop up.

I may be going to the Philadelphia area for a few months starting the second week of December. The cold weather doesn't slow me down.
