US. POSTAL Shops

I beg to differ. Anything containing metcury is forbidden to be shipped by any USPS method, that includes Ground Advantage.

"Key Guidelines for Shipping Thermometers via USPS:
Mercury Thermometers: Forbidden. Mercury is a liquid metal, and if a thermometer breaks, it releases toxic vapors, making them hazardous to mail.
Allowed Thermometers: Digital thermometers, fever thermometers without mercury, and thermometers using red-colored alcohol are generally acceptable.
Prohibited Items: Antique thermometers, barometers, and blood pressure monitors that contain visible silver-colored liquid mercury are prohibited."

thermometer scenario should be straightforward; but not all Postal workers understand they can be sent Ground. Batteries are entirely formulaic. I have been asked to ship a battery to my son with his written instructions thus I have a list I can look at to review what I put in the box *~) when asked by a clerk.

Who said anything about mailing mercury? You really have to read those guidelines. If the package is refused because you gave the wrong responses, they aren't paying you for the shop.

I just wish I didn't have to accept it first in order to see the guidelines.
The current MSC was always the primary. The old MSC was the contractor.

per my understading the old MSC subcontracted the current one and that is why such low fee.
Dino, I would check again.. I'd be willing to bet that the naked folks did not contract those shops out for 14 years (or more).
The original MSC, in the days when they mailed you the pre-packed boxes to send out, was the one that no longer does mystery shopping and forum members would often joke about their office staff being elderly.
Their website sure was clunky, but dang do I miss them! Bonuses were AMAZING.

I remember the days of receiving the oversized boxes...and they weighed like "0" pounds. It was so dumb to mail them, but I was a newbie back then and tried everything. Plus, they took up so much room while waiting to be sent. I also remember doing the shops for the current company long ago also. I just checked my history on the Apollo site and that was in the 2010's. I think the current MSC subbed them out to the company with the sweet elderly ladies and now they are back there. I used to do a lot with the Apollo company back then. I was surprised when I checked my history that it went back that far. It's sort of neat to see all the places that I did, but sad that so many are gone or not shopped any longer....golf courses, airport retail, Gucci, Vera Bradley, Modell's, "Gotta go to Mo's", Bob's Discount Furniture, man, I did a ton of post offices too..2010-2014.

I used to get some dang good bonuses for post office shops with the naked company about 2014ish in the middle of nowhere.... now I don't even see those little towns on the job board.

Been mystery shopping before a postmaster, and still MS.
What I learned working for USPS, was so insulting, harassing superiors NEVER FOLLOWED UP.

NOW, that i no longer work for them, I'm going in full throttle on USPS.
Don't the guidelines prohibit previous employees from doing shops?

And for exactly this reason, you don't come across as unbiased.

Just had my first laptop battery refused. Not sure if they've changed their guidelines or if it was a clerk who didn't understand it could have gone ground. For $5 fees, I'll only do these shops if I can actually get something mailed, now it seems there is no guaranteed scenario. My 'mailing for mom' packages are almost always refused in my area.

Shopping domestic and international locations since 2003.
This year they have rotation limits. Since I did an assignment in January, I have to wait until April to do another at the same location.
roxanne--two months ago I went to main post office and a week later someone phoned me asking if I would accept a shop at the main post office. I said I had just completed one but caller didn't seem to comprehend what I was saying. Maybe next time I will accept the assignment just to find out what MSC will do.
I was surprised to see the quarterly rotation today! I tried to assign a shop and it showed a message of one shop per location from January 1 - March 31. Wow, that seems surprising since they call frequently for shoppers to fill these jobs.

This has to be a directive from the client rather than the MSC trying to include more shoppers.
I still have not seen that rotation information. I have had no issue self scheduling.

The rotation is for the same type of shop at the same location per quarter which puts a cramp on my ability to ship eBay sales.
USPS is very unhappy with the current MSC, thats why all these wacky new questions and restrictions are appearing. This one isn't hard - they tried to get this job done by people willing to do it for $3, or to lose money. Quality suffered dramatically. There is a performance clause they aren't meeting. I've seen this MSC execute many successful programs (we all have!) but they have royally screwed this one up.

My guess is this is the final nail in the USPS shopping program, once this current contract expires.

You can find all this info with a FOIA request, btw.
with the surcharge, I am not doing anymore unless they bump up bonuses...its ridiculous considering how bad the app is and the badgering for geolocation info when I already allow it on the app.

Did you file a foia? I’d be curious to look at any documents you received (if you did one and are open to share).

I am going to file a foia online this weekend.

Is there anything in particular anyone is interested in learning about regarding the shopping program? I will be sure to include it in my request.
I stopped working for this program when the employee messed up on her end and it invalidated the shop through no fault of my own. I understand the fight against shoppers submitting fraudulent reports but in my case, I had done dozens of these shops and am involved in some higher level programs. This had happened one other time over a year ago. Alas, they refused to pay me even after elevating my complaint.
I did one shop sending package from NYC (not my area of residence) to Pittsburgh. The employee picked up kind library mail and included it to my receipt. I said him stop it and do the right things: I need just a priority mail only. He did not listen and continue his wrong way. Finaly the receipt was shown both with his library mail. I knew from the past MSC did not accept such shop I asked him to redo the receipt. He complained and fixed only when I spoke with his supervisor. Finaly at the end I was charged twice for the same package. But I disputed the extra charge with my credit card issuer and the returned me money. I explained the whole story with MSC and the shop was accepted.

Shopping Eastern Pennsylvania since 2009

A lot of hassle considering what they pay...

I had one who made all choices for me and just gave me a price after I handed him the box. I had to ask him what he did and then make him pull the box back out of the bin he'd.thrown it in and start over. He was angry but I needed priority and he didn't ask. Also, too much hassle for the paycheck.

WOW! Took some time off from shopping. Came back to a new MSC paying $5 fees for postal shops. NO WAY!

I saw non-USPS postal shops over the past few months paying $5 and just LOL'd.

My favorite shop program of all time was the USPS box dimension shops from 2009-2011. Ship 1-2 cans of food to a food pantry in Montana. They paid $18-$21 & remote locations would often fetch $35-$45.

I dated a gal who lived in a small college town in BFE CA. I would make a route and earn +$200 on those round trips.

Or, when visiting family in LA I'd pick up 3-4 $45 shops in small towns which would more than cover my gas for the trips. Those were the days tongue sticking out smiley

I miss those dimensional weight shops. I would get permission to send them to family and take the shops around birthdays and holidays. I didn’t make bonus money on most but it paid for shipping things that needed to go across the country.

Right now, I have a box ready to go to a friend in FL. I was hoping to get at least a $5 bonus since the last box cost me $19.75 so I made all of .25 in total for the shop. Of course, I did get to send my friend a gift for the holidays but it was annoying that their reimbursement only covers shipping shorter distances. The current box weighs more than the last do even with a bonus, I’ll probably again only break even.
On a grocery store PO shop once, it took 30 minutes since they had to get a manager to figure out how to void the transaction after they gave me ground without asking.
