$5 closed fee

We get paid $5 for a closed fee. What does the MSC get paid? Do they get a reduced fee because the store was closed or unshopable, or do they still get paid the full amount?

That's a really good question.. I do not know the answer. Nor do I know how to find out.
That question just hit me all of a sudden when I drove up to a store and they were closed due to no electricity.

They are paid the full amount. The location is one they contracted with their client.

Is the shopper screwed? Yes.
Cassie, that's what I thought.

I'm planning to drive right by one that is currently showing as a $40 fee but I know the location is closed. The store never reopened since the gas station became its current brand. Totally gutted for years. $5 fee? Hell no I'll just keep on driving. And it's in the boonies. I'm sorry for the sucker who gets fooled by this.
I have gotten to the point that I will call every place that I do for this MSC. I call once. If they don't answer, I skip it. I have driven by one that I skipped to get to another that I had scheduled, and they were actually opened. I didn't turn around and do it. Wonder how much money they are losing because people aren't going to risk it.

Problem is that won't help you if they rebranded.
That's so true!

Years ago I took my one and only Cinnabon shop. I had to take the last day it was available because it was Passover and I couldn’t eat the item until that day. Arrive at the mall and discover they closed the prior day. No notice, just came in and shuttered the place for good. I was so disappointed. I had to fight to get my $5 or whatever it was back then. Same with a “no appointment” oil change when they sent me home as they were too booked and it was too far to drive back the next day to possibly be sent home again.
Some MSC's are more generous than others. The "many men" one will give you half the shop fee or $3, whichever is greater. For a Pizza Hut shop I did where the location was permanently closed, they still gave me the full shop fee ($8). But then for a Burger King shop where they didn't have Sliders, I was given the entire shop fee *plus* the bonus. This wasn't even a drive-thru shop either, and all I had to do was attempt to order it for delivery. I did need to try a few third party ordering apps first, but even then, I was thinking they might give me $10 or some other token amount for that work, and even that I would have been happy with.

Edit - I didn't get the bonus after all on that one Burger King, but I still got the $25 shop fee. No complaints since that fee was so generous to begin with.

And it's in the triple digits now, trying to lure some fool into the longest-distance $5 they might ever work for.
Now, I am going to crave Cinnabon all day long! There is nothing better in this world than a warm Cinnabon with warm frosting.

Hmmmm.... Ark needs to have some real homemade Morle Cinnamon roles.. winking smiley Cinnabon is crap, and the dough is always raw in the middle and gross.
Oh, my! You just piqued my interest. I will have to find out what Morle cinnamon rolls are now. I love cinnamon rolls even if they're out of the deli at Walmart. Honey buns are the same way. These are my weaknesses that I constantly have to turn down or I'd be 500 lbs heavier.

I got caught up in a closed location once. I think the fee I got was $3. After that I kept seeing that same location month after month and every time I sent a note to the scheduler letting them know that location was permanantly gone. They never took it off the list but just driving over, finding a nearby parking spot, running across the street, snapping a photo and doing the short report was not worth $3.(or even $10 for that matter in this trafficky city)
I once signed up for a location which I didn't realize had switched to another brand. It was about a mile away from another location I was doing, so no big loss as far as time / effort. To my surprise, I was paid the full amount. Woo hoo!

I'll do closed locations for $5 if they're on the way to other things I'm doing.

Morle(what my friends from AOL have called me for going on 28 years) - short for Morledzep. Homemade by me, with freshly milled flour, everything from scratch. It's been a few years since the last time I made them. I'm already fat, if my hips get any bigger I may not fit in my chair.

I just grabbed a few Valeros for this weekend's road trip to see Joe Jackson in concert.

$1 closed fee!

Have synthesizers, will travel...
OMgosh! I am glad you shared that. There needs to be a legal limitation that they can drop to when we do the work on our end.

A $1 fee does not surprise me, as that sum is in keeping with the Arab/camel business model. Although I do not KNOW that action is legal, my money says such an amount is contained in the legalese to which shopper's agree. Unfortunately, some folks must financially "grin and bear it."
Valero guidelines that I have are showing $5, not $1.
