Texas Roadhouse - where they know you by name

A few weeks ago, I did a bar shop at TR. It was a location I only visited once before ever and that was five months ago.
What struck me right away was that the bartender knew my name right away without asking for it.
I had not given my name to anyone before she mentioned it. I wasn't wearing anything with my name
and I was ordering, no credit card out yet.

The last and only other time I was there, it was a male bartender. I clearly recall him.
This remains a mystery. I could have asked how she knew my name, but I did not want to tip off that it was a shop.

At one of the locations, they knew my name and my husband's name. We aren't regulars. I would love to know also.
They ask for your name when you sign in at the hostess stand. Your name is on the little ticket that the host brings along with them as they seat you. This is the same ticket that the manager picks up when they check on your table.
The bartenders know everyone's name. This is the real world implementation of the theme song from Cheers. I see it every time I do a bar shop there. Customer after Customer. If you sit at the bar, the hostess doesn't get involved and doesn't know my name. The bartenders often remember food orders and drinks as well. A bartender who is not exceptionally good with names and faces will not last there. Maybe they somehow fail the interview and never get hired.

Practically every employee there knows my name. It reminds me of the scene from The Graduate when Ben takes Elaine to the hotel bar where he would meet her mother and every employee who walked by greeted him as Mr. Gladstone. I don’t mind it though. I’m treated like royalty.
There is a 5-guys that I do occasionally. They seem ti know, but they treat me like royalty. They deliver the food to my table, start wiping down other tables, sweep the floor, and tidy everything up. I really don't care. My picture must be in the back and they always get good marks, good for them. I hope that you do this service for days when I am not there.
As I mentioned, I had not given my name to anyone. I did not check in at the host stand. I went straight to the bar.
I am amazed because as I said, I had only been there once before and it was a new bartender.
I don't see how it's possible - but Niner confirms, so it must be some kind of tech I assume.

I would have asked. That seems like a reasonable question anyone would have.
Why not say, "Why are you calling me X, that is not my name?" Then see how they respond or what they say.

In the interest of not blowing my cover or making things weird, I would not do this.
Wow, that is interesting. I go to the same one all the time for jobs and also not and I can tell you, they have no idea who I am. The staff turn over is high there. I rarely see the same server twice, and never the same manager. I think I have seen the same bartender a few times but that is it. Line dancing? Never .. never done there.

I wish they would remove the line dancing question. I've seen it maybe a handful of times out of my 50+ shops. (Plus another friend does shops and I'll join him, so that makes it out of more like closer to 100 visits.) I usually say that even though there wasn't line dancing, I at least heard some heartfelt birthday announcements.

I never get offered a gift card!! I see line dancing every time in my silly town but never in my old town.

They do tend to push gift cards around the holiday season. Some locations have a wheel you can spin for extra coupons/prizes if you purchase a gift card while you're there.
Because not all locations are corporate, you get different results for line dancing between locations.
I cannot remember the last time the subject of gift cards ever came up. I see some of the employees have shirts mentioning gift cards on the back of the shirt.
One time, I visited a location and they appeared to be trying really hard to showing they were "having fun." I felt like they knew they were being evaluated that day and were trying hard.
They dance frequently here in No Jersey...far away from Texas..LOL..I enjoy watching them and the atmosphere is definitely upbeat. I love TRH. It's fun and the food is really good and reasonably priced.

I did a bar sit this month. The line dancing question was gone. I can’t pinpoint other missing questions, but the report just seemed shorter. I would rather do the bar than the dining room despite it reimbursing $5 less. The report is so quick!

I don't recall the bar shop ever asking about line dancing. It doesn't even ask about the restroom. The focus is on the bar area. Thankfully they don't require too many details about the way that drinks were served, but if you happen to be a bit more knowledgeable about the topic, you can certainly add extra info if you want. Note that you don't need to order both an appetizer and entree, and the side salad isn't required as well. This is an ideal shop if you prefer to go alone and splurge a little on your meal. You are only allowed one guest otherwise, and sometimes getting two seats together at the bar can be tricky if it's busy.
Were you alone? Once, (not mystery shopping), I was waiting with my daughter in line to see Santa, and when she got up to him, he said, "Hi, Katie! Love your new haircut!" He must have overheard me say her name, and noticed that her hair had been recently trimmed.

He was goooooooooood. (Her cynical 9 year old self walked away proclaiming he was the real Santa)
