Ugh, I have PTSD from that shop. I think the one time I did it I got $110 and no way would I ever, ever do it again unless they added another zero to the end of the fee.
Who does it? We have a Scandinavian Maze pretty close and I was actually going to be going out there.

I'd encourage you to read up on it before taking the shop - it's probably the most notorious shop around and very few people do it twice.
Keep in mind that not all stores are created equal. When looking at performing such a shop it makes sense to do a walk through of your local store and decide, based on your stroll whether it would be reasonable or not.

I have never done this shop (not a location near me), but I gather there needs to be an associate in every department and a legible nametag on every associate. If your walk through shows 20 departments and 5 employees around, you know you would have troubles with the shop. If you walk through and there are lots of associates but only a scattering of name tags, you know you would have trouble with the shop. It is utter foolishness that if name tags are required and employees aren't wearing them that a shopper would be punished with a shop rejection, but that is how these guys play. It is also utter foolishness to have an identification of a unique employee for each department in a store with only half as many employees as departments. I also understand that there is a 'gottcha' on the shop to buy one and at pickup 'decide' you want a second and try to hand the employee cash, though that may have been only one round or a different shop entirely.

What I am saying is that the picture perfect store a shopper might be able to get the work done and get paid for. Store deficits appear to be rejected quickly as somehow the shopper's fault.
"It is utter foolishness that if name tags are required and employees aren't wearing them....."

Absolutely. It 'IS' the job of the store manager to require them.

He can very easily enforce the policy by sending few of them home for a week.
And of course the second part of that sentence is the important one to us--". . . a shopper [should] not be punished with a shop rejection [if the store is not performing to their standards]."
Don't laugh, but I did it again this week.

The hurricane knocked our power out and I had to go to an office store to scan my receipts which cost me more than 15.00. There went my bonus! I was at my mother's house typing on her laptop, kept hitting the wrong keys and wondering, 'why did I do this to myself AGAIN?'

I was happy not only to get my power back today, but to read the email that I scored 10/10.

Congratulations! Obviously the shops work for someone, so welcome to my 'share' of the bonuses! :-)
Another urgent one was going to Borders to do the map organization and restock. One hour - SURE. Try two and every customer thought you worked there. I did it once - NEVER AGAIN no matter what the bonus was.

And my personal favorite was an easy theater install that was all electric and I had to get a babysitter and two people to help me out with it. I refuse all those now too no matter how "easy" I'm told they are and tell them this is the reason, point blank you lied to me.

There are another shops from hell. They are those EPSON printer stuff at Office Depot, Sams etc. They started at $12. Now they are at $16.26. They added additional $0.26 bonus from yesterday.

Another good nickname for the Scandinavian Maze could be the "No Idea" shop, since it you have no idea where you are half the time and have no idea where things are. I used to shop at the Nepean ON store when I lived in Ottawa. We knew it was a kill of a whole afternoon to browse through the store. The really neat stuff cannot be ordered through the catalogue and there is no such thing as free shipping.

I've never done the printer shops.

LOL, when I read your post I had just (again) looked at a shop for a Scandinavian children's clothing store, and I thought that's what you meant. tongue sticking out smiley To my defense, I'm still a newbie at this, although I have certainly read about the horrors of the shop I now realize you were talking about!
Pizza, the children's shop is a good one, but they require a LOT of very detailed narrative. Basically every move each of the associates made. smiling smiley

SO glad you got power back and soldierd on.
Well, paint me nutty. I did it twice. The second time was such a hassle I took it off my list of possibles. Such nonsense. Got scolded for not enough details, of course. "Was the clerk left handed?" "Did she ever say 'Please?'" "Did a wheel on the cart squeek?" I never had such crap on a shop before.
The building of standees, displays, etc. was one of my specialties. I enjoy them, because when you get finish you really have something to look at! I did all kinds, liking the cosmetic lighted displays best. But when a "two hour"job turned into seven, I finally dropped them. Instructions were always a puzzle to be solved, and I like puzzles, but not if they don't have solutions!
Anyway, there are so few shops out there now that I'm tempted. I guess it's back to merchandising.

I can understand the clerk saying please if she was asking for something from you, but being left handed and cart wheels squeeking. You gotta be joking.

I am still trying to figure how to get names for a food runner and busser if they do not come close to your table. :-)
LOL THat is really going to extremes..is the clerk left handed. Well geez I dont know...I did not ask. Really? I can not believe some of these places are so picky and want a blow by blow. Maybe they should do these shops as hidden video tapings.
After reading all of these posts, I still have NO IDEA what shop you all are talking about.

Since no one has named the MSC, is it okay if someone lets me in on the name of the store? It sounds awful!
I am guessing IKEA

After reading the nightmares about this job I'm afraid to even go personally shopping in IKEA now.
