Happy St. David's Day

March 1 is Saint David's Day. He is the patron saint of Wales and said to have been a buddy of St. Patrick. The Welsh consider this to be the first day of spring.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
Hi,

My name is David and I had never heard of this. Think I'll declare it a holiday at my house smiling smiley

Happy St David's day to you too! It might as well be spring, was a tad cool today but yesterday I saw crocuses in bloom in the side yard. I'm in the wilds of western New York and usually we have several feet of snow at this time of year, not blooming flowers.

Well, thanks to St David we received our first snowfall of the winter. Last time I saw snow falling and coming down (blizzard-like) was in October 2011. Halloween weekend.

The days had been so nice it was ashamed to call them winter. Today I don't mind. I am sorry for the tornado in the midwest though. I hope everybody who was affected are fine.
Ah, the land of the leek. What's the other plant--a daffodil?

Our sons received scholarships from a St. David's Society. All they had to do was list their ancestors, some of whom had Welsh names. Of course, they had an application. What was interesting was that when I found the reference in a scholarship book, part of the name of the society was another state, but there was no reference whatsoever that anyone could not apply, so I handed it over to the boys. I think the society is no longer there. (If you are looking for scholarships, definitely do not let the name of the society deter you. One of our children got a scholarship from an organization for another race but the same religion, different denomination. One of the directors said the quality of the resume, not just what was on it, was the deciding factor.)

My mother bought me a pin at a Welsh festival near where she used to live. It is a cat with a hat like Mother Goose. I don't understand the cat's presence. Is it just for cat lovers or what?

None of us have ever been to Wales.
I guess that St. David's Day is the day to drink lite beer as opposed to St. Patrick's Day?
I think the local's best bitter would be more like it.
