Flooded with phone calls...

Hello everyone!
Since I have registered with mystery shopping companies, my phone has been unusually flooded with 1-800, 1-855, and 1-866 numbers, all of which are NOT mystery shopping companies. I checked to make sure my number had not falled off the "do not call" list, and it is still active. Is this a coincidence or has it happened to anyone else?

Sounds like a coincidence IF you've only registered with legitimate companies like those on the list at the bottom of the page. What types of calls have you been getting?

I have registered with legitimate companies, all of which are found on the list. These calls are for magazine subscriptions, tv viewing surveys, and all sorts of totally random things. I use a different number than my home line for mystery shopping registration and this is the first time I have ever gotten calls like this. It could be a coincidence, but it is terribly odd how it lines up with my registration for MS companies.
I would say coincidence since I get no such calls. Rather I still get collection agency calls for the guys who used to have this number . . . aargh!
It is certainly odd. You are the first person I can recall bringing it up so it looks like coincidence.

Actually I just thought of another possibility. After having one of my e-mail addresses for about 10 years I began to get e-mails addressed to someone else. This has now continued for 2 years with no end in sight. Obviously the addressee (and it is always to the same woman) is either giving out the wrong address or it is being read wrong. Maybe someone transposed some numbers and ended up with yours. It seems like it would only take one or two cases of the number being provided to telemarketers before it would spread like wildfire. I have not had much luck with the e-mail situation, but you could at least ask where they are getting your number and possibly get some answers.

Great suggestion. I wish I did no have to listen to a long discertation before they let me speak to ask that question!! smiling smiley
Thanks so much for the tip!
Happens daily and no message. I do not answer. I do not think it is a coincidence. Selling phone numbers is my guess.
I am so glad to read this! I have been getting all kinds of calls lately. Only since probably March, I have registered with about 6 different companies then. I don't know which one sold my number, but I thought the same thing.

I get -800, -866, texas calls, colorado calls, south carolina calls, washington calls, ohio calls, texas, alabama, and pennsylvania calls. I am baffled. Selling me everything under the sun.

Edited to add: I have noticed an increase in spam emails going to my inbox as well. This has all happened in the past month. I have had the same email for 6 years and never had a problem with spamming. Now all the time...I really do think an MSC sold out my info. I don't sign up for things on the internet or with my correct email address. If I think it is something that will start spamming I have a spamming email address for contests, information, etc... Extremely frustrating.
