questions about USPS from a Canadian

I'm sure a lot of us sell stuff online. I've recently sent three parcels to the US from Canada and for all three paid extra for signature confirmation. One got a signature, the other two were "waived". What on earth is that? I've never had a signature waived in Canada. Does anyone know? Why would I pay extra for signature confirmation only to have it waived? This line was on the email I received today:


The recipient's signature is not available because the waiver of signature that you authorized was exercised at the time of delivery.


Huh? I never authorized that.

Perhaps it may be that if I am not available for signature when the parcel is out for delivery they leave a slip in my mailbox. I can either come in person the following day to retrieve my parcel from the post office or I can sign the slip authorizing them to leave the package without additional signature. I rarely sign the slip because if the slip was left for me on Monday I would receive the package on Wednesday but by going to the post office on Tuesday I can pick it up there.

As for whether you authorized it in the fine print, that I really could not say.

Thank you for replying. Just got kicked in the teeth for another post I made, was called a spammer. Still reeling.
I'm very glad there are nice people like you here.
I'll have to do some research online. The word waive does not come on on the Canada Post site. I saw no fine print, it was the same online form that always comes up.
I think for the time being I'll not pay extra for a signature.

In the US I just buy the 'delivery confirmation'. That allows me to track the package on line and see where/when it was delivered. Across borders I don't know how well that would work.

I saw you smacked 'up the side of the head' as a spammer. The problem is we are innundated with spammers selling all kinds of garbage and often the links are 'affiliate' links so they get credit for each hit they send to the site. You are now up to 6 posts so we really don't know who you are--a shopper or a spammer? I suspect you were just being helpful but in general links to non-shop related sites are going to get you called out.

HappyCats - Time to forget about the misunderstanding of your earlier post and just move on. This is a very nice forum and you will get all the help and information you need just by asking or by searching and reading.

Folks like Flash and LisaSTL and many, many others are so good at what they do and are just chalk full of information that they freely hand out to anyone who asks.

Although I did mystery shopping many, many years ago, when I came back to it several months ago, I did a lot of reading, reading, reading and have learned a lot from this forum.

Again, this is a really, really nice forum and you just happened to do something with good intentions that was misunderstood.

Homeofhappycats I googled the USPS waiver thing and this is what I found for you.

I had not heard of it until you posted this. I probably wouldn't continue to pay for it if it can be waived at the postman's discretion.
