Cravings

Don't know why, I'm a normally healthy eater, but I just got a crazy craving for creamed corn...so, I opened a can and ate 3/4 of it (cold) out of the can.
Anyone have weird cravings....

i could never eat it cold. Heated up it's the best.

One thing you never see organic, is cream corn!

It's organic in my house because I grow the corn myself.

I know a great recipe for bourbon creamed corn with red bell pepper & green onions. If you shop right it's all organic except maybe the bourbonwinking smiley

Lately my craving has been for Pirate's Booty. It should be a healthy version of Cheetohs, that is until I eat the whole damn bag. At least I have it with red wine to balance out the meal, LOL!

Yes.. absolutely.

Waffles.

I've been in a waffle phase since.. last March. I have to have my 2 waffles at the very least every other day.

No syrup, I actually don't use syrup.

Butter and Sugar.

(The butter & sugar waffles come from childhood. My mom would make this disgusting thing for dinner called "Chicken & Waffles" - cream gravy with shredded chicken. I had to gag one of those down. As soon as I finished I could have the "treat" waffle - butter and sugar!)

OK Rainy, now you're steppin' on what I grew up with and we loved - chicken and waffles. Only my Mom didn't make cream gravy it was just chicken gravy with chicken in it and that went over the waffles. In fact, they used to serve that at some of the fund raisers for the small town firehouses.

What I get cravings for are hot fudge sundaes and I will say that McDonald's is just the right size. I went to Baskin Robbins last week and I was sooo disappointed. What they put on top of my ice cream seemed to be nothing more than regular chocolate syrup and probably not even Hershey's to boot.

Plums

PS Did your Dad go for his consult?
Ha ha - Chicken & Waffles. Blech. Double Blech. I think if the waffles wouldn't have gotten soggy it would have been okay back then. (I actually like them now). It wasn't a "cream" gravy made with cream/milk but the gravy was creamy - not like.. translucent. (Not sure how to explain). And yes, in Lancaster, PA in some of the smaller fire departments, they do still serve it!

So tell me.. does that mean you like Chicken Pot Pie too?

Some folks call it "Chicken & Dumplings" (they are wrong) - but Chicken Pot Pie is potatoes, carrots, maybe some peas, shredded chicken and a thick gravy in a big pot. Roll out dough see-thru thin and cut into squares. Add the dough squares to the boiling chicken mixture. Chicken POT pie. (With a crust on top or on top & bottom, that's Chicken Pie)

Now I would love a piece of Shoo Fly Pie oozing the molasses bottom!!

Dad did go in for the consultation. He has one more on the 28th and then they will let him know "for sure" if he will be able to be scheduled. He did say he would have to go through a battery of tests first and surgery would probably be sometime in early September. He sounded pretty upbeat about it. Thanks for asking! I should update that thread!

Gotta be dark, Ghiradelli and actually Hershey's dark is good. Just the right of sweet and a bit bitter. Why did I write this now I want some.!!
There are those moments I crave a Cosmopolition.....I'm craving sweets lately as well, and yes must be dark chocolate which I pick up on my whole food shops, but Herseys dark works well.

also Lindt dark chocolate truffles. GEEZ. No don't buy a bag...DANGER

I had the strangest ice cream craving today. I normally eat strawberry ice cream, yet when I discovered that Publix was sold out, I relunctantly bought a 6-pack of Klondike Reese's Pieces. I couldn't want to open the package once I was in the store, so I paid for it while I had a half-eaten Klondike in my hand.

Weirdest thing though was that after I took the Klondike out of the grocery store freezer, it seemed to be half-melted since it was soft. Wonder if all Klondikes are like this?
Newest daily craving.....dark chocolate covered walnuts, bought out of a bin, though it's 6.99pd., I buy about 2$ worth...amazing and a little goes a long way. Very good for the heart.....oh yea!!

Rainy - You are right. There are 2 kinds of Chicken Pot Pie. My preference is the one that is like a stew made with chicken and veggies all put into a baking pan with a crust on top, baked and then served with gravy.

The second is to boil the chicken, and then make a dough (usually one cup flour to 1 egg, a little salt and a tad of milk) which is rolled out, cut in squares and dropped into the boiling chicken broth.

Another think I like which is Penna. Dutch are rivals. Those are the same as the dough from para. 2 above and then dropped in blobs into the boiling soup, broth or whatever. I like to make potatoe soup and instead of draining the water, I drop the rivels in which thickens the liquid, then add milk and tons and tons of butter!
Irene, I think this makes you a Health Nut - pun intended. They do sound really good.

I tasted waffles once, I think. Couldn't stand them. It's amazing to me the things that locals all over the country serve at fire stations, etc. I can't stand creamed corn, either.
Definitely!

Growing up, way back when, mom & dad would take my brother and I down to Wildwood, NJ for the day. (This was when Wildwood was a really cool place to be)

Great rides on the boardwalk, beautiful beach, and a square of vanilla, chocolate, & strawberry striped ice cream between two Hot made-before-your-eyes Waffles!

Yummm.. the ice cream would be melting, the waffle was crispy - those were some good eats!!

And, Rainy, what about the steak sandwiches along the boardwalk? Or chicken corn soup at the fire station festivals?

Frugal - Can I come to your house? I am definitely a Breyer's kinda gal!
San Francisco french bread.....water's different up there, and effects taste.

As long as you lead me to some good vegetables. I like nearly all vegetables, especially in salads and soups.

And I like chocolate, but only milk chocolate.

I learned how to make borscht this winter. I had tasted it only once, in Russia. There are as many recipes as there are countries that eat it, kind of like recipes here for cornbread or chocolate-chip cookies. It was amazing to me how one ingredient could change the whole creamy tasty borscht.
Creamed spinach is fine. Not creamed corn.

Ice cream on waffle cones is fine. Not waffles with pancake syrup.
Waffles, about once a year, Belgium-style. Chicken and dumplings - also about once a year, but the dumplings are not wimpy. Biscuit dough about the size of a golf ball, dropped into simmering broth. Creamed peas or corn, every five years or so. Grilled ribeyes, oh my, but severely raise cholesterol, so they're a no-no. Dark chocolate, yes, yes, yes ~ at least monthly. Fried chicken - the good, really good, my weakness.
Okay, any kind of hummus - drip Tabasco on the top and dip in a Stacy's pita chip. When Tabasco is gone, add more. Oh so good!
Ugg, hummus. Right up there with grits. Chickpeas, though, at the salad bar are good, scattered atop.

Tonight's offerings, courtesy of a friend, were a low-country boil, and seasoned, steamed edamame. The edamame was fun and yummy. Couldn't stop myself from stripping the beans from the pod, with my teeth.
