Dark Circles

Help!

A few days ago, a black circle appeared on the bottom right hand corner of my computer screen. Today, a smaller black circle appeared on the top left hand corner. Is there anyway to get rid of these? I can't see anything on the monitor where these black circles are.

I've never seen black circles. I have an HP with Vista and a touch screen that sometimes shows a white circle about the size of a quarter where I touch to wake it up after it's been asleep. If I touch the white circle, it goes away. Sorry I'm not any more help.
What kind of monitor is it? Operating system, etc.?

What do the black circles look like?

What Anti-virus and anti-malware program(s) do you use and when was the last time you did a whole computer scan?

Did you get liquid on the screen before this happened? If this is an LCD, did anyone press on the screen hard?

From the title, I thought OP was working too hard and staying up late writing reports.
Hey spaz,

Not being able to see what you're seeing, I'm worried you might have dead pixels. Is the monitor old? Has there recently been an incident that might have caused damage to it? Dead pixels happen when the liquid crystal inside your LCD monitor stops allowing light to escape to the Red/Green/Blue field of the display. Unfortunately, it is nothing that can be fixed. =X Unless you have your computer insured (some homeowners policies include this these days-- I would check!), there's not much to do besides buy a new one. Remember to keep your receipt! You can deduct that from your taxes. =D

Sending the best,

It is a Samsung SyncMaster 914v. It is an LCD screen. I think it is four years old...or older.

Last week I did spray a mouth full of water on it, when the drink I was taking went down the wrong way. I wiped the screen off with a paper towel and it was fine. The first circle appeared several days later.

Update.....the bottom circle has moved...it is up about an inch and over about a quarter of an inch.

I read some things about dead pixels, but since the circle is moving, is there anyway to get them to move off the screen?
I am running Windows 7 with a new version of Trend Micro. No viruses have been found after I did a full scan.
Hmm! Dead pixels don't move. I would say it might be an optical illusion, that more pixels are dying as to cause the area to get bigger (and give the illusion that it's moved), but you sound pretty sure about the measurements. The problem is, I can't think of any application or OS issue that would cause dark circles to form _anywhere_. I'm wracking my brain...

I did a little googling and I see other people who have gotten water on LCD monitors and have had the same issue (this thread, for example: [www.techlore.com]). Do you have a techie in the family or a go-to tech spot that you can take it and just have someone take a look? Honestly, it really does sound like a dead pixel issue (or at least _damaged_ pixels). If the monitor is 4+ years old, I could easily see this being the case, but I definitely don't want to give you bad advice. =)

Sorry I'm not much help!

Keep me updated!

Jen
Really it did move, I could not see my time or date yesterday, it was covering it. Today, I can see my time and date just fine. The one at the top left has not moved.
Sorry, missed the other question. The circles are completely symmetrical, which I think is strange in itself. They are both black. The bottom one is larger that the top one. The bottom one also has a slight glow around it.

Someone I talked to suggested unplugging it and sitting it upside down. They said to leave it like that as long as I can. So I did that this morning.....not sure if it is going to work (of if it even makes sense), but it is worth a try. I will keep you updated.
There's at least one virus that causes black, moving circles to appear on a screen.

When liquid gets into an LCD, black spots and other blemishes may move, disappear and reappear in the beginning. The pixels are not dead at that point. Eventually, blemishes tend to become fixed. The weird thing is physical damage to an LCD usually does not produce symmetrical blemishes.

If this is due to liquid getting into the LCD, the only solution I have to try to save the LCD is to unplug your AC adapter and battery, discharge any remaining electricity by pressing and hold the power button for about a minute, expose the LCD to increased airflow (by loosening or removing the lid cover, and give everything several days to dry out (with desiccant near but not on the LCD if possible or a fan/blowdryer).
Thank you, that sounds in line with what someone had me do this morning. I did not think about putting a fan on it...I will try that too!!
