Need a $50 Laser printer?

[staples.shoplocal.com]

Starting tomorrow @ Staples. I have a P1006 Laser printer. I gave $129.99 a few months back for mine. Its $99.98 - $50 if you trade in an old printer...winking smiley

I see no such in the ad. Is this perhaps an HP1006? While the initial cost of the toner cartridges for laser printers are about twice the price of ink jets, they last a loooooong time. We have given up on anything/everything except laser printers at our house because of media issues. And we have had them all . . . ones that took fabric ribbons, ones that took IBM Selectric cartridges, ink jets and toner cartridges. Hands down the toner cartridges are cheapest to operate in the long run. Similarly we are an all HP printer household now because they hold up so much better than any other brands tried.
Flash. This was a double post for whatever reason. Check the sneak peek tab on their ad. That starts sunday...winking smiley

Got it, thanks! Should be a nice printer. I suspect, however, that most shoppers would do better holding out for an all-in-one for the fax and scanning capabilites while still sticking with the laser/toner option. I predictably fax 15 times per month--often a lot more than that--with shops and I need to scan every doggone receipt, so in reality the scanning and faxing together get used only slightly less than the printer functions.
Agreed. I have a nice Canon All In One. When the ink carts ran dry and I found out how much to replace them, I just added a laser printer to my devices. Today I can buy another Laser printer for less than the ink carts for my Canon...winking smiley

Understood. My 'workhorse' is an HP3015 all-in-one that was purchased new in the box on eBay after it became the older model. Cost of shipping was more than the price paid for the item. Subsequently we picked up an HP Color Laserjet 2600n for less than half the price of the cheapest toner cartridge in it when they were being cleared out of a local office supply place. It was one of those days when they were offering 50% off the lowest Clearance price. Subsequently I have been able to pick up 3 of the 4 toner cartridges it takes off of clearance tables as damaged box specials. We don't use that machine much so the original cartridges that came with the machine will last a very long time and the nature of the toner cartridges is that they don't dry out so can frankly be used for years to come.
I would love to have a color laser printer. For my artwork-they make good transfers. And the b/w work well for photo intaglio, as "negatives." I got inkjet as I NEED inkjet for my art. I can only fit so many printers in my nook before my husband goes crazy. :-)

Is this an in-store only deal? I looked online just now, as we don't have Staples here, and could not find it.

I would expect it is Dee, since you need to 'bring in' your old printer. They usually run different deals in their on-line purchase vs store purchases.
Bummer. I missed the "bring in your old printer" thing. ;-(

I have found here that OfficeMax does a great job of discounting for clearance. I don't know if you have one there and/or if their philosophy is the same. Here they routinely discount floor sample printers 30-40% and there is almost always a nice variety of ink and toner printers available. In fact I wonder if they keep their 'floor samples' up for only 30 days in order to then discount them. Most of the time their 'floor samples' seem to have 25 or less pages printed. They also run the 50% off lowest clearance price pretty frequently in the store. I rarely purchase anything from them at more than 50% of list due to the volume of stuff clearanced.
I never find that in the Office Max here. Yours must have a different managerial mindset. I go in our semi-frequently doing shops checking out the printers and supplies through TS, and haven't seen that at all. CompUSA always did that, though.

Seemed great, then I looked closer. No Hawaii on their list. Bummer. Thanks anyway. If I lived somewhere else I am sure I would have bookmarked that.

Sorry Dee. Are most of your vendors similar in price or is hawaii different?

Everything always costs more here-due to shipping costs and high cost of real estate, among other things. Its the price of paradise. :-(
