Google goes after MS yet again

I remember a while back Sneakers stating that Google did not do OS's, and me saying I heard rumors to the contrary. Google announced today that they are making a pC operating system. Story is here:

In response, yet of course, MS began offering low cost versions of XP for netbooks.

Google has done a spectacular job of understanding what end users want/need and providing it to consumers for free. They are attracting the good minds that once flocked to MS but now hesitate to become part of that company. Google appeals more to the young programmer crowd because they have grown up seeing Gates making millions while the methods get his company dragged into court around the world and the monopolistic products having serious flaws while requiring bigger and bigger computers to run. It is a distaste for 'anything Microsoft' that has certainly pushed the Linux collaborative movement and driven many folks to Apple products. I would expect Google to provide a decent basic OS with a large stack of optional aps that can be selectively added to it depending on the power of the computer.
Do people really dislike MS, or are they just bandwagoners? I doubt it, but then again, I am very bias...and live 30 miles from MS headquarters so there ya go...
I dislike the business practices of the company. :-)

I dislike the arrogance of the company. Why in the heck is it to my advantage to purchase what a few years ago would have been a 'supercomputer' just to run the blankety blank OPERATING SYSTEM? It feels like having to serve gourmet meals to the help. And why the heck does it need to be so complicated to configure that it is strongly advised to have a 'trained professional' do software additions and deletions because it is so fragile and unforgiving? And why the heck does it require that I purchase all new equipment and software because the won't/don't support the old stuff unless the manufactures are willing to pay for 'certification' of the drivers? And yes, it is the business practices and monopolistic characteristics of Microsoft that make it such a devil.

So in answer to your question, I REALLY dislike MS!

The new Google OS is based on linux, so it may still be unfriendly to users. But then again the early Windows products were based on DOS which to many end users was unfriendly because it needed so much personal tinkering to get it to run on your specific machine. Obviously Google understands that the majority of us are end users and don't want to have to debug in binary or manually update the kernel etc. But I trust them to provide a good product since at this point the most creative end user technology minds in the country seem to be on their payroll.
Having worked for a company where the current head of Google worked previously as a VP, I have to say the mind is creative, but the ability to stand up to others is lacking.

He is a genius in his area. I think the spine is coming from others, like the founders. :-)

Could well be. There is room in an organization for the dreamers, the 'do'ers and the bean counters for sure.
Back in my corporate America life and still now, I'm a do'er, and a cross-trained dreamer. What about you, Flash, Dee and others?
Do'er, Breeder, Bean counter and spender, Logistics coordinator and Chief Cook and Bottle-emptier (hiccup)

I guess I am just limited in my experience with comps...never had anything but PC. Love Google and opinion is positive, I have confidence they would do well in market share. Mac...not a fan, except my IPod which luckily syncs with my PC just fine.
