Risk Taking, as it applies to Shopping and Life

If you think you have everything in your life under control, and don't want to feel differently, don't read this. For myself, sinner that I am, I have a printed out version of the basic parts of this post taped to the side of my nightstand, where I can't miss it, so I will be reminded everyday.

...........................................................

There is no can't.

There is only won't. People in farm accidents, who have lost their limbs, have crawled back to civilization to get help before collapsing.

When we say can't, we give up our personal power, and let some extraneous force decide for us. Why are there some people who can do anything, and others who are doomed to failure. They decide to fail; they "can't". The little green frog made me do it (you know what I mean).
....................................................
Say "I".

I is not a dirty word. I feel, I love, I act, I can. God that feels good. If you point a finger, there are still four fingers pointing back to you.

.................................................................

There is no should.

Should is a little man, sitting on your shoulder, clunking you in the head with a hammer for every idea you ever had. He reminds us of stupid (or at least outdated) rules that our mothers made 20 (grin) years ago. We should think through our shoulds; I loved the light bulb look when I was doing therapy, when someone realized that something that they were doing that was holding them back was a "just because" and they could shed that burden. Should's hold us back.
..................................................................

What about risk taking? I keep thinking about a thread about our personal information being abused on the web. Mark my words; in ten years, there will be no money, be no checks..... I am not sure there will be plastic either. None of them are safe anymore; my little, inexpensive copier can copy a check so that you cannot tell the original from the copy. If I was a criminal, I could do better; I am just a poor book keeper. We will have a chip in our arm, a retinal scan or some unknown technology. Scary? I think the alternatives are more frightening.

If you are hooked up to the internet, there are people who can hack into your system and look up your files. Spyware and virus' are a constant threat; I lost a hard drive to one. It ate it away.

If you use a cell phone or a wireless, anyone who wants can eavesdrop on your calls. Without breaking a sweat.

So what are you going to do, lock your self in a glass bubble.

At 3 in the morning, I can get the text of "Flowers for Algernon" so I could read it to help my daughter. No library, no bookstore.

Someone important dies, and we know 15 minutes later. The Iraqi war is in our homes. The upcoming elections will not be won by ideals but by images. Irrelevent if you are pro or foe, Bush can no longer help the Republicans because
images are impossible to take back (or close to).

Why am I saying these things? Because you have two choices; live.... or be safe.

I read a pathetic post: I have been a mystery shopper for a year, and never had a job.

This person is doing something wrong. With the best of intentions, they have no clue.

So I tell you what I am going to do. If someone out there wants it badly enough, I am going to make them a mystery shopper. They are going to have to come on this thread and "sign up", answer a few questions for me, and I will do my best to find them three jobs. In a way, I don't know what I am getting into, because I don't know what rural Shopping is like, but I can do it. I live in Phoenix, the 6th largest city in the US. If you live in a big city, it won't take me a day.

Whose up for a risk today?

I have been following your posts since I signed up here, and for the most part, I am impressed by you. I will take you up on your challenge, but I don't want just any three. I want good shops with companies that follow though and continue to use you once you have proven that you know what you are doing and you are conscience about doing a great job for them. I would like to get to know you better so that Ican learn how to be as good at this as you are.

I have taken risks all my life....my first was my marriage...lol....Having been retired 5 years and starting this Independent Contractor's business, although not a big risk. I did invest $ and time, and it proved to be something I really enjoy. I now get out alot, bring in a little cash, and do what I love shop, shop, shop. Risk taking is what it is about. I have many stories, and someday will write my book. Dating in the 2000's...things have changed, woman have their own power now and do I love that, you bet!
