Thanks for the giggle. smiling smiley

You may or not know how much I loathe portraying myself as "the idiot". On the other hand, I have this uncanny need to understand. Could some kind person (geriatric training, preferred), please explain what this was all about? I don't get the wink, winks or the giggle because, oh, never mind.

This was a test post to see what Smileys are installed, as well as a test to see what font sizes and other options are available to use.

I posted the test two times. Once with the proper brackets to make the "BBCODE" markup language do the actual effect, and the second time with the wrong bracket type to demonstrate what you need to type to achieve the same effect in your posts.

I run a private vBulletin message board system and this open source board had some BBCODE implemented, so I was giving it a test drive to see what was turned on. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

I did see one Phorum 5.2 module that I think the users would love to see installed here:

Module: User Avatar

If the Admin ever has any server, SQL database, or Phorum questions, shoot me a PM and I can certainly assist with any issues. This board is a very simple yet solid design with high stability and not too many security flaws.

One thing that really bothers me with the current implementation of the Phorum reply box is the fact that the scripting code is written in a way that it breaks the browser based spell check that I rely on *ALOT*. moody smiley I need to see those red squiggly lines under my words.

Seeing how this board is full of editors, this is maddening to me. I rely heavily on spellcheck and you will see me edit a post perhaps 3 times when reading it right after I made a post and see glaring typo's.
It's not me going back and changing the content of the post, just cleaning it up. smileys with beer

Thanks, scanman. Okay, cutting to the chase, what smileys are installed and where can I access more than the smiling smiley one?

Simply type in exactly what I have to the left of the Smiley description *WITHOUT* any spaces.
Some Smiles are two characters long and some are as many as four charaters to make them. drinking smiley

And don't forget to include Smiley's in your MS reports too! eye popping smiley

@ Stilllearning -

InPlainSight was being facetious and pretending to do what Scanman was doing. You know, look-at-me-I-can-do-that-too kind of thing. However, instead of actual code, he/she was simply typing

"plain text" well duh.. lol

and "plain text in invisible box" where there is no invisible box... he/she just typed that lol

the rest is self-explanatory now I should think

It was just silly like after watching professional jugglers and you say "look at me, I can do that" and start juggling with two balls. It made me laugh. I loved it.

Nerd humor - gotta love it

Can't get the img to work - does the image have to be PNG?
Figured it out. The {img} tag does not need brackets around the hyperlink, but the post automatically added them to Scanman's instructions.

Scanman: you have created a monster.

BBird0701: What can I do to turn that thumbs down of your's to a Thumbs Up?

Combination of BBCODE's in action example:
{size=x-large}{color=#0000FF}{b}BBird0701:{u}{color=#00FFFF} What can I do to turn that{size=x-small}{/u}{s} thumbs down{/s} of your's to a {color=#00FF00}{size=x-large}{u}Thumbs Up?{/u}{/size} {color=#FFFFFF} {size=medium]

See how closing the BBCODE scripting codes brought everything back to normal.

ScanMan, you have it listed as a Thumbs Up!!

Bbird - that took me a second. Duh. I was like, "why is she trying to itali.... ohhhhhhh" LOL It's late, I just got back from dog agility training and my brain is fried. Cute!

I see that people are using the smileys I posted here in other posts already.

This would make a good sticky.

Then again, since not a single person "liked my post" in this thread for the time I spent explaining BBCODE, I'm begining to think I should not have wasted my time.

This was not a shop and I didn't get paid to do it.

I'd expected at least a left click of the mouse for my effort as it took me well over an hour to make up the test and example posts.

If you posted to this thread, don't give me any pitty likes now.

I tried to give you a thumbs up, but it posted as a thumbs down.

My reaction was ... please, no......

this is not a social forum. We are not posting pictures of our kids here. This is a business forum. I come here to get and give information. While I do not at all mind the simple, font-sized tongue sticking out smiley or smiling smiley smileys, I would hate to see this place get cluttered up with huge colorful fonts that take up room, require more scrolling, and detract from the readability of the forum. Maybe try to limit such shenanigans to the General Chat area and keep it off the working areas?

I was in an online forum once and one user thought it was cute to type in a large, purple, flowery, italicized font on a colored background and it was so annoying several of us "hid" her posts. All she was doing was scream, "Look at me!" In addition to that she wrote phonetically like a hillbilly hick. ("Ah was goin ta da barn and Ah saw un eagle."winking smiley

I think I finally PM'd her and told her that the font was distracting and she stopped using it (each user could set their own default font so she wasn't having to HTML every post). I still scrolled past the bad grammar on the longer posts.

Edited: I did not realize this was on the General Chat part of the board. Please disregard my comments! (see my other post below) I rarely come over here and thought I was on the MS Discussion forum.

Time to build a bigger bridge.

This is not a social forum?

Darn it. And here I was going to post pictures of our Bob Ross Day.

Untrue! I just started reading this thread and had already liked your post before I got this far!
I do not have any pity left to give these days.

*********************
I'm "Sandi" in the Middle!
And I just realized (after getting home from a day of shopping) that this thread *is* in the General Chat thread. I forgot where I was and had a moment of panic thinking it was in the Mystery Shopping Discussion forum, since I almost never come over here. So ... disregard my comments ... this *is* the social part of the board and if I'd been paying attention I would not have said anything. Now, what's the "slinking away in embarrassment" smiley?

Time to build a bigger bridge.
Where is the "you are a stupid troll, get out" button????

O.o o.O

Happily shopping New England and beyond!!!!!
