QUESTION FOR THE POSTERS WHO TYPE IN ALL CAPS

I'm curious to hear from any of you...what's up with that?

1. Do you not know it's considered to be yelling in online forums?
2. Do you work for the IRS? (The only people I know who want everything ALL CAPS)
3. Is your caps lock key broken?
4. Are you blissfully unaware that your posts are somehow different from others?
5. Are simply electing to be unique?

I mean, you are on the internet so you clearly have access to a system that's modern enough to have a full keyboard. Perhaps it's the by-product of utilizing a teletype machine or voice recognition software. I don't men to be insensitive, but it just seems like a crazy approach for posting in a MS forum, since I don't know of a single MS company that will allow an ALL CAPS submission.

Please enlighten me. Feel free to just reply with one of the above numbers or supply an ALL CAPS explanation.

I got a pm from one of these folks, after I posted something publicly to her about her all caps. She told me off for picking on her. I could care less. I was trying to HELP her. BUT SHE OBVIOUSLY DISAGREES (intentional use of all caps for emphasis.)

lol.

With some people I really think they just do not know about the all caps/shouting thing. Maybe that goes with the blissfully unaware.

The all caps don't really bother me much. What really bugs me is those (and I don't think I've seen any on this forum) tHAt TyPe lIkE ThIs.
The crazy type that lisams is talking about definitely falls into category 5. I don't think someone can do that by accident.

I suspect the all caps posse is just unaware, but was hoping for a more respectable answer. It makes the possibility of increasing respect for MSers by MSCs that much harder when they are our peers.

I don't do that but I will catch myself doing THis or WHere or something like it if it is the first word of a sentence or a name. I never learned to print in school so I have always printed in all CAPS. I always got comments on that.

It was not, Flash, it was not. And, I doubt that the world is going to be changed by those who only type in upper case, because not enough people are willing to read the entirety of their missives. That said, the writer is correct that there are bigger issues on the planet. But the use of upper case alone did not make the post easily legible or their logic trail less nonsensical.

Flash and Dee, I am in complete agreement with you both. And, sadly I now have a headache from the squinting required to get through that incomprehensible mess.
For what it's worth - I agree, upper or lower case takes a backseat to disease, poverty, war and the other ills of the world. Animal abuse is one cause that tugs at my heart and purse strings. Just didn't think of mentioning it here.

Ratishiq obviously has strong feelings regarding this matter. Shoppers are not engaging in this forum to bring about world peace, feed the hungry or find cures for diseases.

We're here to support and guide one another through mystery shopping and all it involves. This may be from the perfunctory, such as grammatical requirements, to the more specific how to's.
While I agree there are more pressing problems, an ALL CAPS rant in a nuclear disarmament or AIDS research forum would be disregarded just as quickly.

We need to work together to better all of the problems in this world, and communication is the key to that.

Despite all of the problems in this world, it still turns each day, and sunglasses need to be purchased and returned, so many of us are here to make the mystery shopping 'world' a better place. The posters above do an admirable job at that.

I'll consider the post by Ratishiq to be another vote for category 5!
I'm just grateful that this forum doesn't allow funky colors and weird fonts. Those are even harder to read than all caps!
I tried to read the all caps post above, but alas, between the all caps and poor grammar, I finally gave up.

It is quite interesting that many of the companies I have done work for have to emphasize the fact that we need to use proper sentence structure and grammar. Then go on to instruct that reports and comments cannot be typed in all caps.

It makes me wonder what some people learned while in school. I was taught, beginning in Elementary School how to write properly. I can remember my fifth grade teacher marking red all over my paper because I was beginning to stylize my handwriting. In my High School English 1 class, we diagrammed sentences. Business English is just using proper English.

I've been contemplating returning to school and becoming teacher, I just might do that. If it helped one person to improve their life skills it would be worth it.

I enjoy reading and writing. Loved diagramming sentences in high school. It's no longer widely taught in English classes.

Maybe grammar from a member's post doesn't mirror the grammar on the report entered by the shopper?

I also loved diagramming sentences in high school. I also enjoyed a writing class that was an elective my Jr.year in college. I learned ways of writing in that class I still remember and use doday.

I have often wondered if the way some post are written here is the way the reports are written when it counts with a MSC.

Unfortunately, my guess is yes. That explains many of the lame instructions we sometimes get from MSC's.

One of the more depressing components of my former scheduling job was going through the new applications each week, since they required narrative samples.

It left me with a rather poor impression of the writing abilities that many potential shoppers posses.

Those who post here are generally the 'cream of the crop'.
Why thank you, Steve! :-)

This post was in response to HReid's ridiculous sniper rant. He has been deactivated and had his posts removed. As such, I deleted it.
